How to gamble at the DCC

A 6 in TAP would be equivalent to a 6 in APA. BCA uses a different rating based on the number of balls you make each game and may vary greatly between regions. As a TAP 6 you're probably about a C player. Here in AZ you're a 7. When you go to DCC ask for a lot of weight as most players will be better than you. Stick to your strongest game and always over estimate your opponent. Hope this helps.

Being helpful to the original poster is not helping the competition that he is seeking....in other words, help out the"whole" rather than the individual. :p J/K

Does anyone know what OMG's rating is and what league she plays in? After watching her match on TAR I think we play about even.

Don't I get a break for mentioning that I'm new right before asking a silly to you question?

I should have put a sad face instead of a confused face. I was just sad that they didn't allow women is all... since it's supposed to be an "Open" event.

Well that's cool. I am very sad about that as well. My dream is to meet Ga Young Kim.

She said she was a 7 in APA 8 ball which equates to either an 8 or 9 in APA 9 ball.

BTW, good luck but I doubt you get any action. I am an APA 5 and I posted for two weeks in advance of DCC and only got one taker, I won $5. This is not a knock to the one player who gave me action as we only had time for one game.

As far as betting at the DCC, I believe we should all get together and have our own AZBilliards pari-mutual and bet on individual shots and outs during the ring games. This is a great way to get immediate sweat bet action throughout. I will gladly do all I can to stir up that action.

As George has mentioned and it has been said before, you can just "F%$*ing flip for it."

Well now you got someone who will play you for $50 with a game on the wire for you. Bring your roster with the ratings.

If you like Asians that play pool, you should be in the right location....

My suggestion - go to a Chinatown poolhall - you find exactly what you seek!!!

btw - I'll play you for whatever, but I'm not hot or Asian...

Now that is the information I was looking for. But what is the deal with the APA 5s? Are they the sand baggers? I have heard that the term, "Sand baggers" gets used repeatedly in the APA.

Not necessarily sand baggers. Usually it is just a lack of consistancy. APA 5 is sort of a holding area that catches good shooters who just lack a certain level of consistancy to be higher.

i think you hit the nail right on the head with that one, you should sell that definition to webster.

Don't be afraid to play even the first set for chump change and then after you adjust the weight accordingly, you up the stakes the second set.

I don't think this league shit is going to cut it at the DCC. Just a warning.

iba7467...Just curious, but where did Melinda say she was an APA 7 (I didn't read all of the threads that led up to the match)? I had the very first female APA 7 in the entire country, in my league, up in MT. That was more than 15 yrs ago. She would be able to spot either cubc or OMGWTF serious weight, and still beat the heck out of both of them. IMO neither of them play at an APA 7 level.

First of all I have been a obsessed with pool for a mere 6 years now and couldn't draw the cue ball till 5 years ago. I dedicated myself to reading every book and watching every video that the library had.

I like to gamble playing pool and sweating on the pros. Discovering this forum a couple years ago was the greatest thing ever. I have never been to a pro event but now that I have made some friends on AZ I will be going to the DCC this year and I would like to match up without getting robbed.

Here is my idea for matching up at the DCC:

I will bring a printed copy of my league roster that proves that I am a 6 in the TAP league and other AZers that play league can do the same. We show our roster and our drivers license and then we match up even if we are the same rating or play according to our handicaps.

Here is my question: Who can tell me how a TAP 6 compares to a BCA 6 or to an APA 6?

I have been a non-sandbagging 6 for over 2 years and my id number proves I've been in the league for years and I would expect others to have been in their league for long enough to establish a real rating.

Then we play for
$50-$100 and the winner buys a round of drinks and we walk away friends.

Its cool that the internet exists ao new guys can learn some-things before they get their noodle wet, however the key word here is "some". You have to get out there and see whats going on, dont bring the paper work-please.

Dont rely dt much on league ratings(i dont even know how I play-but odds are I'm a bit stronger than you based on experience, or I could be wrong too-its a gamble for me to say that), bringing documation on how you play will wake everyone in the room who will beat you because you are showing just how green you are-leave the paper work at home, its not worth the paper its printed on and like I said its a tell that your green. so its a bad move.

its called gambling for a reason, you just dont know. Just hang out and watch people play, if you think you can win play. I only played one kid this year, I spent most of the time in my room because I was sick, I was in a room with only a few people in it and was checking out a cue for a friend and some kid 18-20 years old walked up and asked me to play for $50, I had no idea who he was, so I said "Tails" went to my room got my cue and we played a race to 7 for $50. I liked what I saw he had about $400 on him and I never took it seriously and won 7-4 he played again, when someone I know came in, I started talking to my friend, He said "I'm on the hill" I had 2 so I needed 5 to win, I won 4 so it was hill/hill I said bet $100 and race again? he thought about it and said "lets just play this last game" I knew he was scared, I broke dry he missed I missed the 4, he ran out. We broke even-he knew then he got lucky to get out even, I didnt care. He knew that he was in over his head. I admired him for wanting to play no questions asked.

Thats how you get action....Ask for it. Then see what happens. Based on what happens analize it abd based on what you know, you will then know what to do, comming in with papers, looking to make friends isnt gambling thats soializing which is ok, but dont confuse the 2. My read on you is that your a social player that loves pool, and thats great I wish more people would do what you do, but gamblers have a different outlook-win as much as possible as often as possible, socialize later.

best of luck.

In some cases, a convenient lack of consistancy. My previous summary of skill levels between leagues was based on 8 ball.

Drew already said it, but it bears repeating. Almost anyone willing to bet $50 or $100 at the DCC plays a lot better than a typical APA 6.

If you want to get into action without giving your money away, you might try to get some AZB people who have been around to steer you into decent games. Lots of guys will help you out if you make it clear you aren't trying to steal, just to match up fairly.

sandbagging

Take away the sandbagging factor and i would say a Tap 6 would be BCA 8 and APA 8.

BCA League play very little or no sandbagging,BCA tournaments no sandbagging.

APA people can get away with sandbagging some.

Tap,IMO widespread sandbagging league, have heard stories of tap operators encouraging it.

I want to thank everyone who has given input in this thread. Getting steered in the right direction toward certain players sounds pretty good.

My plan at this point is to set up at least a couple guys to match up with before I even get there using the league rating verification system.

I'm sure I will play others too as I like to gamble on pool games.

Fatboy had it right that I'm a social gambler and not out to make money with it. There was a league night where a TAP 7 (Highest rating) woofed at an entire room with 4 teams there and I stepped up and took his offer for $500 spotting me the 7.

We both pulled the cash out of the atm paying 3 atm fees each and played a race to 11 for $500 He had been drinking and since there was no side action I let him quit for $300 when I was up 9-5

I didn't need his money and I was more worried about getting mugged in the parking lot by his friends so I chose that route.

Prior to that I had never played for more than $100 a set so OMGWTF is still my hero. See you guys at the US Open or DCC!!!
