In the local handicap tourneys I am ranked as A+, which means I gotta spot more people games than I get spotted. I play in the occassional WPBA event and am on the BCA Master's list. So I do have my good days, but most days I play like a girl. :p

but most days I play like a girl. Boy are u in trouble now.:D

How well do you play?

I'm a recent member of this forum...great way to kill time, for sure, and I'm learning so much about the game.

This is something that strikes me as missing from pool: the lack of a good handicap system. I see too much "I play pretty well"...what the *&#% does that mean? and how do you bet it?

One of the great things about golf is its handicap. I think I've seen people refer to tournament players with a numerical rating - correct me if I'm wrong. There is nothing similar for recreational players?

Can't Bob J and Dr. Dave put their brains on this and help us all out?

Before I quit playing for 15 years : Have run over 100 several times, ran 7 racks 9 ball(but have a week break). Back to playing and started playing One Pocket.

Actually, several people have suggested rating systems built on some kind of self-administered skill test. Allen Hopkins had one and Mike Page developed the game "Fargo" which works for such a thing. One problem is the my table is a lot tougher than your table (I claim) so my rating looks too low. It would be nice if all pool players belonged to the same organization, like FIDE or even USCF for chess, but they don't. If they did, there would be some hope of establishing a universal rating system.

I have noticed we have several members on this discussion board who from how well they play pool are almost at professional level.

I am curios how many pro players there are on the forum like Grady, (who make a living of of pool) and at what level most of the other members play?

Are you capable of running a Rack of 14/1, can you break & run 8 in one pocket, or at what level do you play? Do you Hustle pool as you means of income ?

i put together a 2 pack playing 9 ball the other night. i never ran more than 27 in straightpool i play 8 ball ok

I'm only 19 so me saying I'm a good pool player sounds like I'm braging to some, but I would definately say I'm above average. I can run the table in a couple games like 8 ball, 14-1, and 9. There is this thing me and my Dad do, start out with 3 ball rack then 6, 7, 9, 10, and finally 15. I am capable of starting at 3 and running every rack through 15, maybe that helps.

Meh

I have been playing for about 8 months, and am capable of running out if I'm "in the zone", and if the balls are nicely spread. I use to practice 6-8 hours a day, everyday. Now I just get 3-5 hours play time, daily. Talk about a pool junkie! I don't consider myself good, but like most of you said, I consider myself a threat to some.

This game is my passion, and I plan to compete with the best someday :)

Some golfers belong to an established organization called LIAR. All that's needed is a signed scorecard... ;)

lets see, in the weekly handicap 9ball tournament I play in, I'm rated a C. (7ft table)

But, I've run several 2 packs, and if given the chance can generally run out.

But, when i play in the weekly Straight 8ball tournament, I can beat or hang with the same guys who kill me in 9ball.

I also play better on a 9ft table, so when I play on them, I'd say, I'm up around a B to B+ rating.

For the most part my game expecially on a 7ft table in 9ball is very inconsistent, I'm alot more consistent at 8ball.

take for example, tonight in the weekly 9ball tournament on 9ft Diamonds, I beat a guy who is rated A- in the same handicap tournament that I am rated a C. And he was up 3-0 on me going to 5. So go Figure lol.

im quite weird. I frequently make the cut shot a table long but miss those 2-3 foot long shots often. must be luck.

I play so bad, I gave myself the 7 and lost.

I think I'll just have to quit playing with myself. LOL
