Actually, several people have suggested rating systems built on some kind of self-administered skill test. Allen Hopkins had one and Mike Page developed the game "Fargo" which works for such a thing. One problem is the my table is a lot tougher than your table (I claim) so my rating looks too low. It would be nice if all pool players belonged to the same organization, like FIDE or even USCF for chess, but they don't.
