I recently sold a Lomax jump-break,here is link;

and he never said anything so after a couple of days after He recieved cue I pm'd him to see what was up.He said he felt the finish was thin in a couple of places and that the shaft,YES HERE WE GO,of course is warped.I had looked at shaft just before shipping and yes you could see a vey slight difference of light under shaft appox. .01-.015 or about the thickness of 3-4 pieces of paper.Now I have been a Machinist for 12 years and do know what warped is,and one side of shaft had a slight wear possibly from rubbing table during a break.So I told him to return cue and I would refund his money.Cue shows up and someone has sanded the shaft considerably as now you can see light under alot of the shaft and yes it still varies but once you make any shaft smooth it will vary.I only have a feedback of 10 and his is like 58,should I just take the screw job and refund money or tell him the cue is his as he had sanded it?
Thanks for your input,
Jerry

Jerry, I would contact the buyer and ask him why he made the modification to the cues shaft. If he did want the cue he should not have done anything but return without asking you if it was OK in the first place. Now there are always to side to every one of threads, however, I read the previous thread you listed and you did fail to note the slight wobble in the shaft which should have been disclosed.

This is one those questionable situations were you and the buyer have done things or failed to do things like they should have been done. Two wrongs do not make anything right, so if I were you I would refund his money, since you did not mention the problem openly in your for sale thread. Unless the sanding has caused some damage that will further take away the cues value.

Manwon You are correct,before I shipped it I should have notified him ( I had just found it out)and asked if it was going to be a problem,but I figured if there was I would take full reponsibility and refund everything not expecting him to do anything to cue.I believed if he has 40 (not 58) transactions he would already be aware not to do any alterations if he wants a refund.

what was only about 1" long now has escaladed to needing a new shaft to sell cue.

In that case I do not think I would refund all his money, but you and the buyer must come to an agreement as to how much.

You both obviously made a mistake in handling this situation so you should not have to absorb all the costs.

If he's not able to return the merchandise in the same condition he received it, IMO, he's not entitled to diddly squat.

Sure you should have told him about it. Not enough to break the deal. But if you KNOW he altered it in any way, it is his and I would tell him he is gonna have to pay to have it shipped back to him. Like the old saying goes, "You break it, you buy it."
