Brother, this is the 4th or 5th time (actually more

) you've posted something here that CLEARLY shows we have very similar attitudes, insight,or however you want to say it.
The bottom line is we are both trying to take the opponent out of the equation.
My choice under the circumstances would have been exactly what you chose, given the identical position.
It's not the first time I've used this move to directly win a game,or used it to just "rearrange the furniture",left my opponent tough and got another shot,or used it to take their only way of breaking something else out,and winning as a result.
I saw a random female player recently use a very similar shot in 8-ball and although it was a complete accident, she looked like Einstein after the result.
She was stripes, and had 2 close together similar to your 3-4,as well as a hanger where the 6 is. She called the ball closest to the rail cross-corner,but used her primary object ball to bank it,and followed forward aggressively.
I don't think this was her intention to do this, but not only did she make the shot she called, the cue ball came straight thru and made the hanger, and the ball she hit first came 2 rails uptable and it fell in the corner.
In the time it took to shoot it,she went from a sure loss if she missed,to making all 3 balls and landing straight in on the 8 like she meant to do that the whole time.
The other thing I would have considered is shooting the 1 in the same corner you did,and coming off the end rail and breaking the 3-4 up that way. Tommy D.
