How would you rate the DCC as a vacation destination

It sounds like a great venue and all. Would or does anyone go there for a pool vacation. If so what kinda monies would be needed for the entire event. No gambling just some food and drink and room on site.

We do. This is our fourth year attending, third as a vacation. If you stay in the Executive for the whole time that is about $900. The food, this will depend on you, if you eat at the hotel only then figure another $400-500/person that is 2 meals a day plus snacks. If you get a room with a frig that saves you about $30/day with coke, water, beer, lunchmeat in it.
If you love pool, stay up till the sun comes up then I highly recommend it.

I plan on making it my vacation for as long as I can. If you don't want to pay the extra for a room with a fridge, you can do as one friend did and get a cooler to keep lunch meat in. The biggest problem with using a cooler is that you have to babysit it and make sure there's always ice in it so that the food doesn't go bad.

Regardless of what route you choose to take, if you can go, you should at least try it one year just to see what you think. If you love pool and all that it encompasses, you'll enjoy yourself and you won't regret it.

How much $$$$$ ???????

Room --- $69 a nite x 9 = $621 + tax
bank entry $75 {gets 2 people into tourney for the whole event}
Food and drinks --- $360 {less if you eat lunchmeat and such in your room}
Travel expenses--- {depends on where you're from}
Amount of entertainment for your $$$$----- PRICELESS

The greatest show on earth. You won't know til you go. Find some friends to split the room, get a fridge sent up and buy your favorite snacks and beverages. I bought 3 meals while I was there in 8 days. While most people won't do that, {and it's probably not too healthy}, I brought peanut butter, lunch meat, oatmeal, beer, pepsi, bottled water and snacks. The 2 people I split the room with brought food too. We go there together every year as a pool vacation. If you love pool, It's the BEST. Sam

Well....

This is my 3 time at the DCC, and while I had a reasonably fun time, I don't think that I will go back. The biggest reason is that the tournament itself is poorly organized. This is not a big surprise since it must be very difficult to schedule 400 players. However, after waiting over a day and half to find out when I played, I just as soon forfeited and spent more time watching, then wondering when I played.

There is no doubt that there are a lot of good players to watch. Plenty of action, etc....If you want to be just a spectator, then the Derby will offer you a chance to see great playing.

I found it very difficult to find players to match up with, noboby wants to play an unknown, and I sure did not want to play a champion (at least without a decent spot). The tables basically rented out for $10/hour, you have to plug $'s into them as you play.

The other drawback is that the Executive Inn is located basically in the middle of nowhere, so it is nice if you have a car. Louisville has some interesting sites worth visiting, such as the Bourbon tours, downtown, and various pool halls. It is definately nice to be able to get away from the hotel occasionally.

Regards,
Doug

the hotel is not in the middle of nowhere, it is right next to the airport which is in the middle of the city, you go 2 exits in either direction and there is anything you want

Derby City is crowded, the food is fair, the hotel ain't cheap and seating isn't that great except in the TV arena.

So I suggest you only go if you want to see the best pool players in the world battle all night for large amounts of cash. The action room reminds me of a dingy poolroom anywhere in the South. But people will drive 500 miles to see the kind of games that happened there every night.

True the tournament is unwieldy at best, and I fell on my face, winning only a few matches, but I would still play again, and vow to return in better stroke next year. I never got my game in the AZ room (Harvey where were you?), but really enjoyed every minute I spent in there. It was fun to meet everyone, talk and play Pool. Many good players are on here, and Satman is my pick for AZ top gun. I'm not sure I'd like to match up with him, but next year we can play some cheap Banks or One Hole. I like a tough match.

It is reminiscent of Johnson City, even though it is shorter by a week or so. What Derby City is, is a gathering of all who love Pool, a reunion so to speak. A chance to play, to visit and to watch. All and all, okay by me.

This was my second year there and I just regret that I missed the other years,
if you love the game and all it represents DON'T miss it , The AZB - 1P room is an added bonus with all the pool greats that drop in and out , I have almost 30 autographs of the pro's that I cherish and even got to talk to and have an autographed pic taken with Earl whom I found to be one hell of a nice guy in person. The DCC will be on my agenda as a don't miss from now on !
