They very well could be as they sit well above the finish of the cue.
I currently have one in the shop that I'm re-doing.
The first time I did it (in linen), I dbl wrapped it and for whatever reason the glue let loose. I'm considering that there is something on the wood that compromised adhesion.
I've now washed the wood with xylene and sealed it.
This time I'll first wrap the groove with .020" veneer to get my build.
Thanx Mike, great idea.
William,
Don't turn-down the work if you think you can do it. Just charge accordingly.
If you're ever going to do them there has to be a first one.
Just think it all the way thru from start to finish before you even open the
door to your shop.
On the cue I'm doing, I tried one way that didn't work. Now I'm going to try another method that I feel more confident with, given the suspected adhesion issue I had. If this doesn't work, I'll keep looking until I find the one that does.
I've got a lot of toys in my bag of tricks, epoxy, multiple layers of CA or auto-clear, staples, welding, the list goes on.
Stick around, I'll know in the next day or two if the veneer method works.
