Hello;
I am getting progressive glasses bifocal is needed for close up to a arm length away. I see pretty good at distance but I have a minor correction there too.
My Question is what type of glasses work well for pool. I dont want to always be pushing them up higher on my nose when I need to get down on a shot and look thru the top of them.
I was looking at Silhouette 7626 brand with no frame around the lens and no hinge either. They seem to stay snug on my head but that was just at the store without my Rx in the lenses.

I have mono vision now and my left eye is the distant one these glasses will balance my vision which will take some time getting use to but I am ready.

Thank You for your ideas and comments.

Make sure your optician orders the lowest segment height available for good pool playing.

Decot Hy Wyd

I have used Decot Hy Wyd's for years for pool and shooting. They specialize in sport glasses. I think they are in Phoenix, fax EX and you get quick. If you recall in "The Color of Money", when pauil Neuman got glasses, the large hi riding one are Decots'. I got mine with bi focals. Progressives are too hard for me to manage and I do not know how they would work playing pool? You might find yourself cocking your head to find the right focus?

Snooker glasses

I have been using everyday type glasses that have large lenses for several years. I have two problems with them. First I ordered them without bifocals because I didn't think I needed bifocals for pool. I was wrong. While I don't need them for actual shooting, I need them other things like a cell phone, a score card and for any kind of reading that comes up. The other problem is that I haven't been able to get them adjusted properly so that I don't have to push them up on my nose a lot.

Recently I got a pair of snooker glasses. I ordered them over the internet from England. Here's a link:

I have no problems with these glasses. The lenses are lighter than what I used previously and they are far more comfortable. Right now, they are having some kind of special and the price is less than half what I paid.

Highly recommended.

I had the same problem a few years ago and had to go to bifocals.....got the laser surgery and have never looked back, I wear reading glasses when I need them.

I recently tried progressive bi-focals and absolutely hated them. They have a very narrow area of perfect focus, the rest will be fuzzy. I would much rather have real bifocals. Check your source for a satisfaction guarantee before you buy unless you have used progressive lenses before.

As has been in fashion for several years now, my glasses are rather small. This has caused me to adopt a more upright shooting stance, rather than keeping my chin closer to the cue while shooting. IMO, aiming takes place while you are standing, not while you are down on the shot performing warm-up strokes, so I don't think this is detrimental, but it does take time to get used to.

I have used Decot Hy Wyd glasses for over ten years and have had nothing except positive dealings with them. They were very helpful when I had an idiot doctor screw up my prescription, and yes he is an idiot! DeCot has a website for more information it's http://sportglasses.com/

I too need correction for both distances. After messing around with glasses for a few years I gave up and got contacts for my distance vision, which is what you need for playing. I only wear the contacts when I play pool, that way one pair lasts a very long time. I had my right eye lasered for distance. For short practice sessions I take the glasses off and don't bother with contacts. I use a pair of cheap readers when my contacts are in and I need to do something close.

This has been a far better solution for me than any glasses. I did not have to change anything about my game to correct my ageing eyes.

Learning to put contacts in isn't as difficult as you may think. Pool players are gluttons for punishment anyway. Good luck with whatever you decide to do !

Thats kind of funny as I have a post about this a couple of monthes ago about being raised up to a 7 (APA) and going blind, I have tried playing pool with my walmart readers and it is a nightmare. so although I hate putting things in my eye (IE eyedrops etc.) I ordered contacts which should be in, in a couple of weeks (I hope they work for me) good luck and those pool glasses sound like a good product.

I don't know anything about segment height or De Cot pool glasses etc. I do know that two years ago I got some progressive trifocals that fit right for my pool game. I advanced a level or two in a day.

But... my first pair of progressives would make me dizzy every now and then. Because of the narrow focus area from side to side I think. They do take a while to get used too.

Talk with your eye doctor the need for sharp focus between two to ten feet.

Need a good optician to fit your Progressives and then it still takes 3-6 weeks to become accustom to them. I've been wearing them for over 10yrs and always cringe when it's time for new ones as they often don't get them right on the first try.

X2 I never could get right with glasses and even though I hate contacts they are the better choice for pool and swiming.
