I am learning one pocket, please help

go watch some grass grow! that will get you ready to be a one pocket champion! ............boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't even go there...bonehead. Boring is watching some guy running racks of 9 ball. Watching people execute shots with an endless amount of creativity at moments that absolutely require it...is NOT boring. Watching people bank, kick, and play safe all on the same shot with accuracy and regularity is NOT boring. Boring is a cue ball going up and down the table for another shot that's either straight in or slightly angled.

This is just my opinion.

Lol.. Anyone who says this can get a ball, just based on the "impatience factor"...

Automatically guaranteed to sell out the game in the first 20 minutes...

You are absolutely correct. One pocket is the only game that I would sit and watch for any duration of time. I compare nine ball to a game of checkers and one pocket to chess. In a game of one pocket the opponants can carry on a conversation without ever speaking one word.

Over the course of the last year and a half, I've had the opportunity to play Hillbilly more games of 1 pocket than I can remember. I've learned more from those games than I could ever have hoped for.

I had almost the same experience playing carom pool. I rank carom pool right up there with 1 pocket. 1st place for sure.

To each his own.:)

Hi, I would like to pick up some dvd's(instructional) on one pocket, cheap if possible as the guys at the pool hall have got most of my money from trying to learn that way:)

Or if you have a link or something else that would be great to. thanks

Hi Nate;

Come down to Sacramento in June for our big tournament, 10 days. There will be a 1p tournament and you can expect to see some great 1p, watching better players can really help your 1p game. Plus there are several other tournaments/calcuttas etc. 20k added so it brings in some talent. Show up, lots of guys from WA come down. Last year JD was there for the first time but several other guys from the Seattle/Tacoma area come down.

I have a few DVDs, tapes and books laying around, if you make it, I'll give you some 1p stuff. There is also the chance for a few short lessons from some very good players.

So how did JD and Mike from Seattle do? I imagine these references are vague enough to not kill their action..

My $.02

1. ALWAYS know where the cueball is going.

2. If the safety is harder than the shot, shoot the shot.

3. It's almost always a good thing to leave your opponent frozen to their side of the stack.

4. If you have no choice but to leave your opponent a shot, leave them a long shot. Distance is a good thing.

5. DON'T KICK AT BALLS. There are times when you have to kick, but you should never be happy to kick at a ball.

When you find that you are missing easy shots, go back to 9-ball for a while. It's good to switch back & forth.

I think you will be suprised how much your 9-ball game improves from what you learn from 1-pocket.

good luck!!

bonehead?

easy for you to say big money! $100 a game is pretty nice action to most of us who actually play instead of bellyaching from 3000 miles away! you ain't barred and the action ain't hard! all you have to do is actually get out of your chair, and swing that dust covered cue of yours! i'll still be here when you get here!

I would say JD did alright, made a little cash on some sets. Wisely turned down some offers. Super nice guy and good player, got woofed a little by a DA, handled it well. Don't recall how Mike did last year, he's sort of quiet these days but is usually lurking around the corner.

Word is Nick Varner and Bustamonte will be there this year, among others, which usually includes the rest of the Pinoy crew.

I'm perty sure BCN doesn't own the rights to this. This is also still for sale from Accu-Stats.. but it's not stealing, right?

I only post here so you can be informed and are thus able to pass along to Pat.

Fair enuff.. Just be aware when I come back, the action's on MY terms, because people shore as sh*t ain't gonna get to fire a few hundred when I got a couple thou in my pocket.

instroke, more than anything, I like to fire a few woofs in Wally's general direction, because you and me know that hardly anyone there's got more than $200-$300 to gamble with at most.

Yet they still woof. And act like I'm scared because I don't step up often. More than anything, it's a risk/reward thing.

That one young guy that kept woofing at me got on my nerves, (I'm sure you know me, and the guy I am talking about) so I finally jumped up, even though I hadn't practiced decently in years, and offered to play him some Last Pocket 8 ball or One Pocket for anything up to $100 a rack, and he comes back wanting to play a set of 9 ball for $100.

I thought it was so funny that he was woofing big and was settling for such a small game, I got in the box with him just to see how he'd hit em, knowing he was probably playing better 9 ball than me.. I was freewheeling a little just trying to have fun, and I could tell the $100.00 was important to him, because he was show signs of pressure.

I thought it was funny as sh*t, and when it got hill-hill, I let him call it even, because I felt a little pity for him.

Are you the big guy? If so, me and you talked afterwards, and you told me you thought he was in over his head, which I agreed with.

That's what irritated me so much about Wally's. Everybody's in such a hurry to step up and play the "out of stroke guy", EVEN, no less.. Then, when it turns out out of stroke guy wasn't so out of stroke, the little fish got scared.

What's so funny, is that I would have played the guy for free, or very cheap, and he could have got some tough competition without having to risk getting burned too bad.

There's two players in Wally's.. Big guy, and Larry. I am under the impression Larry doesn't know I know how good he plays. That's the thing. People assume because I haven't gambled much lately, that I'm stupid or scared. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I do my research, and I follow local results in both the KBP tourneys, as well as Florida Tour and Southern Tour. I know Larry was once tour leader on the KBP Tour.

So, like I was saying.. There's two good players at Wally's. None of the rest are true students of the game. I've personally seen a few of the others gamble, and none of them have a decent mental game.

Quite honestly, I see anyone at Wally's except those two as fish, ripe for the picking, once I get back and in practice. I'm sure you know, it ain't about how well you hit the balls in practice, it's about how well you hit em when the other dude's trying to shoot your nuts off.

Until then,

Russ

very true, most people there won't bet more than a few hundred(i don't blame you on the risk/reward issue), and you're right practice doesn't mean a thing if you can't make them for the cash, and you figured me out,i'm the big guy, and i get sick of all there woofing too! like you said "until then" .........jeremy

Some people find one pocket boring but that doesn't mean the game is boring.

People get bored with lots of things but that doesn't mean that those things are boring.

It simply means that they can't appreciate what other seem to appreciate.

While I am not a classic music freak, I actually enjoy some classical music but could seldom tell you what's on the radio, Bach or Beethoven. Some of my friends red neck/cajun friends hop in my red pickup truck and say, "Man what in the hell are you listening to?" I just grin and say bear with it for a few minutes and see if you like any portion of it. They seldom do. :p

When a person is bored it means that the item cannot hold their attention.

It doesn't have to be the item that is the problem for the boredom.

No one should be offended that another person's attention can't be held by their favorite game or passion.

JoeyA (likes one pocket and Andrea Bocelli) :D

If all men were running after the same woman life would be hell.
