You are probably still aiming at the same spot on the object ball using center that you use when using English.

You could still be trying to adjust your aim for the deflection. Or not hitting or aiming center, does the cueball spin after the shot?

You're probably drunk and playing on the wrong table. Just kidding!
Your subconscious may have developed a habit (albeit a small one) of coming into whitey with a bit of spin. You should be able to practice it out by making strait shots, one after the other. Long ones and short ones.
Say the words 'center ball' just before you shoot.

I've been practicing straight center ball shots. I was thinking maybe the throw of the object ball changes. I know to slightly over cut with draw and slightly undercut with follow. At least it's been working so far, but when I hit center ball I do the same as follow or try to hit it center pocket and I either undercut or over cut. It's bugging me, and I haven't had time to work on it which only adds to the frustration.

That makes sense.

I tend to rarely use "side" (I stay with top/middle/bottom), but when I do use side,
I have to concentrate just a bit more in order to ensure my cue ball goes to where I intend.

It's all relative; just concentrate a bit more when using center.
I'm sure you've been playing long enough to have a feel for deflection on the whole.
Not a big deal to adjust to your "non-English" shots.

Shoot et up, my friend!

Tor Lowry talks about having to re teach good pool players how to play the game without English, so you are not alone.

I know to slightly over cut with draw and slightly undercut with follow.

Strange, I do the opposite...medium speed draw agrees with a mathematical
angle....follow goes a bit thick for me.

On cut shots at slow speeds, center ball tends to miss thick because
the cue ball pulls the object ball at contact...people that play a lot tend
to put a bit of outside english to make it natural.

High speeds will satisfy the mathematical angle...reduces cling.

It's fairly easy to demonstrate that both draw and follow give more cut (and less throw) than a stun shot, so it looks like you are unconsciously compensating for something else.

As for center ball, how close is the cue ball to the object ball and how hard are you shooting? That is, are you playing a stun shot or does the cue ball have follow by the time it gets to the object ball?

Ive been having the exact same problem lately. Undercutting fairly consistently but I think I have figured out the problem and a few guys already mentioned it. Im just so acclimated to accounting for throw that im not adjusting properly for center cue hits.

If you are missing consistently on the same side of the pocket, I would take a little more time looking at the cut angle to help your eyes tell your mind where the aiming point of contact is.
Another poster mentioned the cling. If you are missing on the same side of the pocket repeatedly, it is highly probable that is the root cause of the problem.
If you are playing with newly polished balls after being accustomed to playing with chalk covered balls the cling will drastically change the interaction at the point of contact.
Cling is most noticed and affects the object ball path on shots where the cue ball is moving relatively slow which allows the weight of the ball to push the object ball forward before it can change direction.

ive been working at it. major improvement. taking my time to find the right contact point. its a constant readjustment this game is.

may be you should try TOC
Touch of center
I live in Dallas and will try to contact CJ.but I doubt that it is anything that
a few tapes and years of watching can't fix

align to the inside of the pocket and use the entire pocket

I could not play anything near my top level using "center ball". This would keep me from being about to throw the object balls by either spinning or deflecting the cue ball. My choice is using a slight bit of inside to make the cue ball defect and over-cut the object all slightly. This enables me to align to the inside of the pocket and use the entire pocket. My margin of error in ball pocking is very large as a result. This is called 'The Three Part Pocket System'

Play Well.

Stop using so much English on shots. Just use a touch of deflection. Stop using center ball. Use a touch of deflection. Do a search for posts from a guy named CJ Wiley
