I f****ng loved Bonus Ball

I'm really hoping that this game takes off. I enjoy watching, especially with the talent they have from team to team. The freezer is great in the booth and the shot clock really induces pressure. The elements of 1p mixes things up nice. I'll gladly buy their matches on pay per view.

The game is great, strategic and can be enjoyable to watch. Almost all the genious behind the game was Vpbb whom split with Chiborak when he told Morris and Moore that Larry did not have the million dollar payout. Chiborak was furious and he sold his shares to one of the investors. He came up with the scoring with pennies and the diamonds. Nathan just likes to take credit.

He says the game would play better as a 10 minute match with a 21 point limit but Chibby over ruled that. Yes you will see a lot of One Pocket dead space in the longer version of the game. He said when he had a amateur league in Winnipeg, it had hardly any shoot-outs and was way more offensive. He told me and talks about a much better version that he has produced. He said he will be introducing it to and for amatuer players.

You can add him as a friend on facebook. He is wearing a One Pocket t-shirt in his picture. He uses solids and stripes and no time clock, but would in a professional television only version. I know him personally and he is a promoter, through and through. He wishes that Bonus Ball could suceed as it is today but the business plan was always by the seat of Chibby's pants. That is evident by the mini-season and real short play-offs.

He always said everyone that had an open mind would enjoy the game. Looks like he was right.

I've tried to play it with stripes and solids in the poolroom before, and I think I'm going to try it again. The biggest obstacles to overcome were 1. remembering what ball you were supposed to be on and 2. remembering which set of pockets you had. The pocket setup is so different than any other pool game without them being white and black like on the broadcast it wasn't natural to remember.

I get what Stu was saying about the pace slowing down in that last game last night. It turned into a one pocket esque moving battle for more than a few innings. At least with the time clock and shot clock it doesn't turn into a total quagmire. Like I said in another thread I think it's a good game, but it definitely has some room to evolve and become better.

Trying to remember those things is hard for pool players I can't see anyone who knows nothing about pool getting interested enough to keep track

I always knew that the win or go home matches would be amazing to sweat. After the amazing match last night, I went back and watched playoff #6 Rockets vs Poison. Mika runs a perfect game to get his team back in it. The whole match comes down to one point. Major drama!

I'm not eating nothing lol I watched it more then once and I think it's as terrible as watching one pocket. If you like it good for you and I hope there are more like you because I of course want nothing but the best for the elite players of the game I love but I have no interest in watching anymore of this myself.

I don't find it a coincidence that now that it's free all of these cheap nits love it... Go back to pay per view and watch how fast it sinks again lol

How true. A game that "forces the action," "requires constant strategic adjustment," "invokes tension,"
"incorporates one-pocket, 14.1, and rotation style of play," "promotes a team-based concept," AND
"presents it in a professional and sports-like atmosphere." And now it's on ESPN?

Larry is an innovative, courageous, patient and business genius!

All you people who bad-mouthed this game....can....well, eat your words.

If a person doesn't have faith in something new, that could mean that the person is too old (not in age, but in thinking).

The game is awesome, I wanted to dislike it but it was the most exciting pool I've watched in a long time. I especially dig the shot clock and team format, everyone on this site should be watching this.

Thanks. If not can you watch it via PPV?

You can go to the WPBA site and order a match for $7.99. I didn't think the rules were overly difficult. There was only one rule I was questioning called a continuance which involved making a ball in your opponents pocket and keep shooting. Everything else was fairly simple. I like this game now because I actually gave it a chance by watching. The way it incorporates all the games is interesting and the match I saw was full of excellent shot making, great cueball control and great safety play. The shot clock really creates a lot of intensity. To me it looks like to play this game at a top level you must have a handle on all parts of your game such as, banking, safety play, position play, and shot making. The pressure is really intense which makes it really exciting to watch!!

put the super bowl on PPV and watch it go from 115million viewers to about 1million.

I watched a bit of the match yesterday. In my humble opinion, the game sucks just as bad as it did the first time I saw it. Why on earth did they not choose a known game to push so hard... a game that people actually know to some extent!? Snooker would have even been a far better choice.

no existing games work for tv.

Bonus ball matches are great for live tv. 1.5-2 hours per it's perfect for live tv.

I personally don't like watching recorded matches much. I vastly prefer live.

wrong ... have you seen the cost of nfl sunday ticket? it's up to $300 for the season and people pay it with no problem. People ***** on here about paying $20 for pool streamed. They would pay for the super bowl if they had to.

I have not watched all of the matches, but I never saw one as short as 1.5 hours. Usually 2.5 - 3 hrs for the ones I watched.

On Shawn Putnam's table at MBC, they put purple and orange circle stickers on the pockets to identify them. Nothing big, just something so that you don't have to keep track mentally.

Yeah, the WPBL needs to release the pro version of the score keeper app.

Jaden

When the balls are purple and orange, wouldn't it add to the confusion to mark the pockets with purple and orange stickers? I'd think that black and white, as WPBL does, would be much better.

We held a Bonus Ball tournament at Bull Shooters in Phoenix using stripes and solids. It was a singles tournament and we got about 30 players. They all enjoyed it. Of course, the added money helped.

We're now going to see if we can get a team league started. It may be tough at the amateur level, but we won't know until we try. :)

Roger

We actually used real Bonus Ball sets for the tournament Roger. I should know since I took 2nd place. :p

The match last night was not even the best one we have done during the playoffs, there were 4 that we did that gave the NY vs Atlanta match the 5 ball or we could say the Bonus Ball. We had three that came down to the wire and one where NY shut out a team playing great. I really hope that all of you get treated to matches like those in the future or check them out on the replay. Do not get me wrong there are times a match can play very slowly and too defensive but that can happen in any pool match.

You're right, Lenny. I thought I saw some tables using standard balls, but I just checked with Mike Bates and he told me that all the tables used Bonus Ball sets. He still has all the boxed sets in his office. I stand corrected. :embarrassed2:

Roger
(p.s., standard ball sets can still be used)
