It's been a year and a half in league and there is that one guy I just couldn't beat

he's the captain of the team that won it all last year.... he's good.. I challenge him at least once a month for the last year. and he didn't just beat me,,, he dominated me every time.. I could be in dead stroke.. and poof if he's playing I can't get simple shape.

Until tonite.. we played box 8 race to 5 he starts strong Break and runs the first rack. I didn't even pick up my cue.... " here we go again" and then wham I decided fu*k it he's going to win again I'm just going to shoot. and then its 1-1, then 2-1 then 3-1 then 4-1, I ripped off a 4 pack without thinking I missed shape once in rack 6 and left him easy he broke dry and I won it all 5-2.

Most of you probably don't care but he is "THE" guy not that he's the best... he's just the one I could never beat.

Until today and I am jacked about it... has anyone else felt the rush of not just winning... but dominating "that" guy?

some time ago, when i first started playing pool. i jumped right into playing tournaments, i didnt know any better. i would always have to play this one guy without fail. i guess i was like his Bye match. it was a 9-ball tournament and he would have to spot me the 5 ball and would always drill me. and would always say to me afterwards "Nice Try Kid" so as time went on i got better and he stayed the same, he wasnt coming around much, and a few years later my handicap was higher, i had to play him on the feature table of a tournament, I had to spot him now, i had to give him the 8 Ball. man i was nervous as ****, i collected myself and drilled him 7-1 i believe. i shot lights out ! and afterwards in front of everyone i announced while i patted him on the shoulder "Nice Try Kid" man did that feel good.

Since then in the tournament, the tournament director started announcing me as "Stevie The Giant Killer" and everyone knew why. it was great!

So i guess everybody has a nemasus!
and eventually they will get there's..........

congrats!!!
i know exactly how you feel, there was an older player i used to match up with, still a very good player but on the downhill side of his game. I probably donated to that guy for probably 6 or 8 months .....ill never forget the first night we played some sets and i won them all. Then it got to where i was just flat dominating him and then we got to the point where we just didnt play anymore against each other, he didnt want to ask for a spot and he coudlnt beat me.

SS,
Congrats. It is ALWAYS a rush to beat your "nemesis" - no matter your skill level; and no matter his skill level.

For the past few years I have had a regular weekly straight pool game with a top pro. Even though I receive a modest spot (oh, alright...its a monstrously big spot), I was unable to win. As my game has improved I have actually recently won 4 times (???out of a hundred sessions????). The last 2 victories were by huge margins. Though I try not to gloat, the sense of accomplishment is still there. Now if I could win without the spot, THAT would really be worth reporting.

I could remember playing that guy in a a 8 ball tourney,in the area where i lived he was the best bar box player for years. He was known in the leagues and bars as the best.We were playing double elimination single game 8 ball at the tourney,he went through his side undefeated easily beating the local yocals,i had to go through the one loss side and in the finals i beat him twice. It made me feel good and showed me i had came up,there is no way to know if you have until you play the top players where you live and in that setting i had arrived. The last i knew of the guy the drugs and alcohol got him and he wasnt playing anymore.

What a great feeling. I had one of "those guys," also. For years, he could give me whatever weight I needed. I moved to the mountains for about five years. I played seven hours a day, five days a week with "Coach," from somewhere down way South. I jumped at least two or three balls. When I moved back, I jumped on JJ right off the bat. $1100 even, then $300 giving him the eight. NOONE thought I had a chance. The last set, I made him throw in a hat he was wearing with his construction's logo on it. When I pull it out of the closet occasionally, I get the rush. Congrats.

Oh yeah, beating Cliff two out of three sets with a slightly heavy spot pumped me up, also. He's from here, and most all look at him in awe.

Awesome. I just did the same last night. The guy is an A- player, but I've only really beaten him the first time we ever played, when I came out on fire.

So last night we played a race to 10, and in the blink of an eye I was up 9-0! I tried to shut out the set, but he ended up getting a game in the 10th rack. The next rack he broke, scratched on the break, and I ran out for the win.

The sad thing about all this? He was so furious that he actually wanted to start a fist fight. And we were only playing for table time! To make matters worse, I once considered him a semi-friend of mine (in the pool hall at least). Then he gets up in my face, starts talking about how I move around too much when he shoots, how I knew he was getting over the flu and hadn't hit a ball in two weeks (yet he was the one who asked me for a game). It was absolutely ridiculous. I told him if he wants to start a fight with me and go to jail, then it's fine by me. Then he says he's going to get other guys after me; that I should watch my back. WTF? This guy got all bent out of shape over TABLE TIME. Then when I refused a second set because he was going ballistic, he refused to pay for the time. I couldn't believe it. This guy was way out of line.

The upside to his outburst? I'm never going to play him again, and I'll always end up the winner for it. He's too much of a loose canon. But the best thing is knowing that I beat him so bad that I got under his skin. Everyone was watching (especially when he starting shouting and getting in my face) and he ended up embarrassing himself off the table as much as he did when I had him in a coma on the table.

A 4 pack is pretty good on any table, congrats!
