I am a retired woodworker with 50 years experience.
Glen was generous enough to supply me with all dimensions, angles, and techniques
required to convert my Diamond red label to blue label specs, free of charge.
Not many professionals would do that.
His instructions for leveling the slates, and covering, using the glue method were
very detailed.
I have played on 5 other 9 ft. Diamonds I could find in the middle Tennessee area pool halls,
and none played as true as mine does now.
If you are able to read this Glen, Thanks Again!
That's great.....but we as top mechanics on this forum have all done that.
I've told people over the phone how to do many jobs.
I've spent hours on the phone walking people through recovering their table....explained how to do their rails......all angles.....cuts.....and measurements.
We have all done this......but that for the most part goes unnoticed by most.
This forum was a tremendous help for so many people.......what really went wrong was the guys that started to do this work with the advice of 5 or 6 top mechanics......then started to post their work and knock the ones that gave them the advice in the first place......all along their work was not even par....but their ego was bigger than this forum.
Glen started more people against one another than anyone.....I can say that because I know that first hand.
Some of the guys on this site calling themselves mechanics is so far from the truth......but Glen was given them props for the work they were doing...... he and I argued about that over and over.
They weren't doing the kind of work....they were charging for.....but thought their work was right.
I'm not trying to knock anyone.....just trying to understand how guys come on this site......post some pics.....and think their top mechanics......sale restored tables by the dozens....when all along they really have no clue.
Will they get better.....absolutely they will in time.....we all did.....what gets me up set more than anything is when that offer work on rails.....telling people I'm high priced and they can do as good of job for way less......get the job and then I get the call only to hear how bad of a job they did....and how they knew they should have had me do the job and made a big mistake.
I didn't spend thousands of dollars on tools just to make more money.....I did it to do the best rail work.
These guys have a circular saws....table saw....and elec. hand planners....and think they can do great rail work.
I blame Glen for giving these guy false guidance....and cheap tooling.
I'm not trying to start another war on here......but that's why the forum went south.....guys don't know the answers with out Glens approvals.
Glen has tremendous knowledge about tables.....but no more than Jay knows...or I know......in fact Jay as well as myself have given Glen tons of ideas....just to have Glen post as his....did we say anything....NO
Between Jay and I....together we have about 70 years of experience in this field.
This forum should have gotten better since Glen was banded.....but it has gotten weaker.....cause all the voices that were loud and arrogant.....don't post cause they don't know the answers.....look back at how many were posting.....and find their posts now.
Sorry....we all know......I don't sugar coat anything.....just how I am .
