I have returned to pool, and I know the secret!

Maybe his "secret" will overcome my TOI

Yes I try to avoid deadly colds at all costs.

C.J. spoiled the secret anyway.

Best to the O.P. and maybe he will come back in 4 years.

If he's playing at Volcano's Grill in Hurst Texas tonight I'll say "hello" for ya, and urge him back. Maybe his "secret" will overcome my TOI......that wouldn't be a secret, that would be a miracle. ;) LoLjk

Well, damn it all. Who pissed this guy off? Now we'll never know the secret.
Let's see if we can get him back. He seemed like a decent enough fellow. A little low on brain wattage, but what the hell, none of us are Einsign...Einscri...Erwin Schrodinger, right? :)

The Internet is a tough town, you need a thick skin. OP does not have a thick skin.

PS There is no one secret to great pool shooting.

Sure there is but if anyone actually knew it, it wouldn't be a secret :)

A secret is known to only one person. If one other person knows what the first person knows then there is no longer a secret.
If we can locate that other person then maybe we can find out the secret.
This shit is driving me crazy. :)

Damn it man, I was just about to take the cotton out of my ears and put it in my mouth so I could learn the secret.

He learned the secret from a couple of unknown monsters, just before the gunfight at the ok corral.

A general receives a secret message from HQ.
The LT asks the general what the message is about.
The General says "LT, can you keep a secret?"
The LT said "Yes sir general!"
The General says "Well so can I!" :)

Well, you know what guys? There's another thing I remember from 4 years ago, when I last posted on this here board: it wasn't full of arrogant *****s. If this is what Azbillards has become, I'll leave it to you.

So long ****ers. That's the last you'll hear of me.

(Oh, and I won tonite.)

Congratulations on the win! How many people did you infect with the flu?

Larry

It's actualy pretty comon to stop playing and come back playing well ,, the reason for this is you tend to stick to the basic fundementals and the concentration level tends to be better ,, a lot of people shoot themselves into bad habits forgetting basics and actualy start playing worse ,, this happens in golf quite frequently and unless you have a instructer you could go yrs before you figure it out on your own , that why almost every touring pro has a instructer

I can see that, I was playing well and at a point somewhere I started focusing on fundamentals and my consistency went up and it was noticeable.

Our number was had

After a 4 year hiatus due to health problems, I started playing again a few weeks ago. And... I've discovered the real secret of pool. I'm good and I'm not even trying very hard!

My first game in 4 years was totally unplanned: I was having a drink in a small crappy bar near my place. A friend invited me to play on the dinky, dirty table in the back room. I thought, I can't really play anymore but... what the hell, it's a bar and the guy couldn't hit a ball even if his life depended on it.

So I picked a house cue, and the old habits quickly came back. But I had a rethink: how can I play with the physical limitations I now have (and without hurting myself). I can't really assume the proper position to shoot straight anymore. So somehow, in 10 seconds in my brain, I quickly reviewed the core reasons *why* a proper position is important - not how to find another position - and I devised a very simple method to ensure a straight stroke in any position. I worked the cue on the principles I had thought of, and it worked rightaway! I emptied table after table. Wow!

So, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I dusted off my trusty old Meucci and headed off to a local tournament the next Sunday. I figured, if my thinking was correct, I didn't need to train or warm up or anything. So I just arrived there and played, totally cold. I finished second (and won 50 euros too :))

Since then, I've been playing 2 or 3 hours once or twice a week (my body can't really manage much more than that) and I'm doing great: I win local matches right and left, I managed an average of 5 recently in a straight pool game the other night.

I don't train.
I don't need a good cue or a good table anymore.
I don't need to find "the zone" anymore: I'm always in it - I've discovered what "the zone" is: it's that magical moment when people play right, but don't know why.
I don't drink a glass of scotch to loosen up before a game - no need to loosen up.

and I play well. Not exceptionally well, but consistently well. That's what's important. When I miss a shot, I know why and I don't get frustrated. It's such a simple secret, I'm amazed I managed to play for 30 years without discovering it.

But I'm not revealing it just yet: I'm scheduled to play an 8-ball tournament this afternoon, and I have one hell of a cold. I feel like crap and I'm running a fever. But I'm going anyway, as an experiment: if I'm correct, even with a cold in full swing, I should be doing okay. If I do, I'll have proof positive that my thinking is indeed correct. Then I'll elaborate - if you guys are interested of course :)

At less than 300 posts this guy got our number....I vote him the troll of the year! until someone does better at least.

True.
Harvey Penick, in his 'Little Red Book', says that if you have a bad day on the course, don't worry about it. If you have a bad week, see someone. What may take you six months to fix on the driving range may only take a couple of lessons with an instructor.
The same could be said of pool. If you're in a rut, give Scotty, Randy, Roger, or Donny, a call. :)

Good to know except that in my area theres only one instructor that I know of and he isn't exactly a pro, although he certainly is better than me I wouldn't put money down on his game and eat steak that night
