I have an older set of balls. They've yellowed. Playing with them is fine. Rubbing with ball cleaner and Aramith cleaner/polish has no effect. Can they be renewed or do I just continue using them as
they are and consider them to have a patina?
Now.................... about the billiard balls..........................

If you expose them to sunlight they will lighten.

Just play with them and they will turn back to white..

As another poster had stated, exposing them to light will brighten them back up.. don't waste your time trying to clean them white.

I got a couple sets of old yellowed balls with a couple old tables I bought. I cleaned them in my homemade car polisher ball cleaner using windex and while it cleaned them up they were still yellowed. I used a small shake of comet cleanser in the ball cleaner and they whitened up really nicely. I know some will shutter at this idea, but I think it worked really well and the guy who bought one of the tables thought they were a newer set of balls. Keep in mind these weren't high quality Aramith balls or something similar.

I am 89 years old and the same thing happened to me. I was going to make an appointment with my doctor, but I'm going to take your advice and use Aramith ball cleaner. I'll let you know how it works.

Stick the pool balls on a towel and lay it in the sun.....rotate the pool balls occasionally. It might take a couple of days, or perhaps a lot sooner, but the pool balls will lighten.

I'm the OP. Well, I left my balls out to lay in the sun, following the advice from a few knowledgable AZers, for a couple of hours today. They're starting to turn tan and a bit leathery. It's supposed to be a nice sunny day tomorrow here in New England. I'll drop my shorts again tomorrow and see if they whiten.
Seriously though, thanks for the advice and help. AZ knowledge gurus are what the forums are for and about. Mitch

I can whiten yellowed phenolic pool balls with a proprietary whitener. <~ a professional service offered.

I've had this in the works for awhile now but have 95 irons in the fire at once and need to free up some time to get the ball rolling on the whitener and ball polisher/cleaner.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the support.

Yellowed balls, you say.
It could be a liver problem. Stay away from fatty foods for awhile and see if that helps.
I noticed that my balls had small cracks all over them. Turns out it was only varicose veins. A little fish oil and they were good to go. Sometimes a good massage helps. :)

I was worried about you TS, the over/under on when you were going to post was 2 hours. I swore your ears (or something else) had to be burning with such a soft target waiting for your input (with all due respect).

Keep up the good work.

I know it. It's like the Sirens' song. I just can't help myself.
Yellowed balls. That's hilarious. :D
