I Just Can't Help Myself! Skip Cue in Progress :0)

Okay.....I really couldn't sit on this. I have been waiting for a pic of my cue in progress from Skip, and I got one today. I will hopefully have in my hands in another few weeks...yippee! To be proper: Madagascar Rosewood (BdR) butt and points, Curly Maple forearm, 3 'veneers' of Curly Maple, Pink Ivory, Madagascar Rosewood. Pink Ivory oval rings framing Ivory hearts. I am told the rosewood will become more reddish once the finish is applied. I am very, very happy with how the design worked out. I will post the finished cue once I receive it, but now, for your viewing pleasure:

Lisa, that is a truly gorgeous cue!

I see that Skip is inlaying directly into lighter-colored woods, and I'll bet that it'll be perfect. I think Koop is getting peacocks into cocobolo, and that will be a tester as well.

The design is very nice, the woods spectacular, and it will look about 20x better once the finish is on.

Thanks for sharing, now maybe he could concentrate on my cue =)

Make sure you get some nice rings...

Now you need some nice high and low rings in the butt, maybe one above the wrap... OR.. you need to box out the butt with pick ivory making it look like the ovals are in 4 windows, per se, and then at the intersection of each horizontal and vertical you need the ivory dot inside pink ivory.

Just now saw the post, Lisa. Very nice design. Bet you can't wait for it! :D

Thanks for the compliments! :D

I am told it should be completed within the next 2-2.5 weeks, shortly after the Expo, I'm guessing.

As to the rings...Skip told me they are already completed, everything just needs to be assembled. It is my understanding that they are stitch rings of Pink Ivory and Curly Maple set into Madagascar Rosewood (BdR) rings, instead of phenolic, @ A,B,C,D, and E....so, all the way up. After seeing the inlays, I think I may have changed the ringwork style, but since they are done already, they'll be stitch rings. If I had an opportunity to change them, I would have gone with a solid Pink Ivory ring with a thin band of Ivory in the center, set into the Madagascar Rosewood ring. But I am sure the stitch rings will look great. Besides, I don't think I could afford the additional cost of the added Ivory.

The joint is going to be a flat-faced Ivory. I discussed this with Skip, and since I was shooting so well with the flat-faced joint on my last Skip, and liked it a lot, he suggested that if it wasn't broke, don't fix it...Lol. The butt cap will be a faux Ivory, since I just could not afford to swing the real thing. I decided to go back to a linen wrap, which was another cost-saving decision. The shafts will have Ivory ferrules.....I nixed custom jp's in favor of.

I hope to have the cue by the end of the month...yippee!!

Lisa, that is a very nice cue. I look forward to seeing pics of the finished product.

I'm waiting patiently for the first bunch of pics showing the progress on the cue I am having built, which isn't expected to be completed for another couple months or so.

Again, many thanks!

I am extremely happy with how the veneers turned out. I had made the decision early on the go with 3 veneers instead of four, but going with the double thick Pink Ivory sandwiched in between the standard thickness Curly Maple and Rosewood. I think it made a terrific impact into the wonderfully curly Maple forearm. 'Pops' the entire forearm! And I think the inlays turned out awesome!!
I can't wait to see the finished product either...driving me really nuts now...Lol.

Gotta admit! That is one fine lookin' piece of wood, or woods, or whatever! Nice looking cue! The finished product is going to be spectacular!!!!! You'll love it!

Lisa, the cue looks really nice. Will be looking forward to seeing it up close.

;) :)

Thanks again all for your kind comments!! I am really excited about this cue, in case I haven't mentioned it before...Lol. I still can't get over how crisp these inalys and points appear to be...I'm sure it's gonna stagger me once I actually see the cue in person....gosh golly Skip does nice work!

Lisa, I can't wait to see the cue when finished. It's going to be a real knock-out!

Beautiful cue, very unique. :)

Did you design the cue start to finish or is it a mix of yours and Skips ideas, either way its a stunning cue!!!

Thank you.

I was actually going to go with the status quo, and have a more traditional design done, because Skip is so good at executing them. But I have to admit, that I was feeling somewhat unfulfilled. When an issue arose because of the wood I had picked, it was actually a relief, because now it allowed for my more creative side to come out. I am lucky that I have an eye for color and am able to visualize design elements...even if I cannot execute them myself. When I discussed this design change with Skip, he was actually in full agreement, and thought it would be great with the wood selections I had in mind. He offered to do the four veneers for me in the points, but I thought that if we went with the double thick Pink Ivory sandwiched between the traditional thickness Maple and Rosewood, it would have more impact in the Curly forearm....and it worked out beautifully, IMHO. He also offered to do the Ivory hearts into solid Pink Ivory oval windows, but I thought the Ivory hearts being framed by Pink Ivory oval rings might have a greater impact, and it would appear that that was the right decision as well. My mom was an Interior Decorator, and I was always involved in art classes myself, so I think that is where I got my color and design sense from.

Skip had it pretty easy, actually. When I had the custom paint done for my bike, my paint guy told me he never had anyone who was as involved in the design process, down to the exact color hues; even the tiniest detail. But he also told me that he enjoyed it, and thought it was one of the nicest paint jobs he had ever produced for my model of bike.

So I have to say that while I had design vision in this cue, Skip has design vision execution. It just simply couldn't have happened without him. I am fully confident that I made the right decision in my cuemaker choice.
