I know nothing about cues - help me understand

Very interesting. My question is: How do you correlate or come to the conclusion that only 20% of cue makers build their own cues just because Duc has a web-site that sells blanks? Amazing to have such insight and clarity from referencing one such site. You should play the stock market. With your uncanny ability at forming such definite conclusions from such meager data. You should make a fortune in no time at all.

Dick

Dick, he already is a millionaire from gambling on pool.
Well ... he would be if everyone stopped stiffing him and payed up ... :D

Is Airport Billiards still open? I was very sorry to here Harry died, he always treated me very well. We use play a little 3-Cushion together when I was in town, always got my a$$ handed to me but it was great to play a National Champion.:p Since my Mother passed in 2006, I don't expect I will every be coming back there.

Good Luck with your project, contact me if need some help!!!!!

Thanks. Yes Airport Billiards is still open.

Harry was amazing to watch and a gentleman to all those that played him. He would come in and simply play to play. You weren't the only one that got their a$$ handed to them, so don't feel too bad.

Thanks Dick.

Do you use premade full splice blanks or a square piece of wood to make your cues? I might have to adjust my numbers.

btw, you look alot like TommyD - are you related?

I am pretty sure that I would use the silver rings so the pin should match in color. I'll make a trip to Home Depot and see what they have. Seems like I could pick up a pin there.

funny stuff.

Dick

Steve, he's my Cousin

And don't confuse me with Tommy D, he's a really nice guy.

But then again so am I.

He's a smart guy. In fact, Watchez can be coy.

He might have started the whole thread intending to outsource the job. LOL We need to make sure that he doesn't run over to Busses or Terbrocks. It kind of reminds me of the Back to School Movie with Rodney Dangerfield where he has NASA do his homework and has the author of a book write the book report for him.

That being said; I think Watchez can make some Ragu on his own. If I had a lathe, I'd like to try the same project. :D

Back to eating some popcorn.

Like a train wreck, I have continued to read this entire thread longer then I care too. So thus my two cents because I have to justify all that reading...

Wether you feel this guy is a bit pompus and lacks that thing called tact, or just got sucked into defending his post to the point where he is attempting to make a good hitting cue, the point is now... He has the tools, he has stated he is going to attempt the cue,...all his critics can do is wait till there is or is not a finished product.

I will stick around and watch, for two reasons...
1. Im curious if he can make a good hitting cue
2. If he doesn't will he retract his statements about the ease of making a cue from a blank.

Steve Sobel aka Watchez

I think Watchez was banned for a while.

I think he is Steve Sobel and is a team manager of a very good team.

He is back on this forum and is acting like a gentleman.

What ever was the reason he started this thread about cue makers I have no idea.

I think he is defintally an asset to our game and I do wish him the best of luck.

I did strike back at him because he attacked people I have come to respect, but i do think this is obviously over with.

This was a long and interesting thread and it's probably time it goes away !!

Tommyd1

I think

If you're gonna start something like this, at least have the guts to come forward and finish it.

Ok 1st hello everybody, my first post.

I really liked the black grain in the butt and the shaft wood seemed
preetty good and i WOULD REALLY LOVE to see watchez finish
that cue (and i truly mean this ,not in a bad way)

and btw Tony Zinzola is DA MAN :thumbup:
..goodnight

You'll never know unless you try. Watch and listen first.

Making cues - I prefer using all the cue makers out there- they have so much knowledge and experience. Try apprenticeship first- anybody can make a broom handle ,cane, or baseball bat. You could paint a car with 56 cans of spray paint too. You are learning though that (all 350-500) cue makers do different things. Making mistakes with gold rings, ivory is unacceptable. Practice practice- getting the same consistent hit,feel- Have a grate day Watches. I have spent 25 yrs learning the secrets watching. Still a babe in the woods. I just select parts, wood and play and dream. mark

How has this guy gotten away with this? I see him post in other parts of the forum. Talk a big game, a cuemaker steps up with an offer, and then what? You walk? Avoid this thread completely? Bulls@$#

Guess you proved him wrong Tony.
