I lied in the APA skill level polls.

Please state whether you lied in the APA skill level polls. I'll start. YES I lied, because I'm shitty pool player but a badass e-pool player.

Dude if you are going to lie about something that trivial how can anyone believe another word you say!!

If the poll wasn't made as a public one (where it shows who voted what), there's no point in lying. Even if someone cared enough to check what you answered, they'd have no way of knowing if you were one of the high votes or one of the low ones.

One of the biggest obstacles to improvement is lying to yourself about your own skill level. Hopefully something you're working on. That applies in both directions, it's not useful to say you're terrible if you're not.

seems to me you have a serious character flaw, why lie about this? i am an apa 4 but trying to move up just cant get the consistencey thing down yet.

I also lied, but it's not my fault. You see I am an SL 20 A+ double helix low grade ∞ and that wasn't listed.

its the end of the world...

Who really cares one way or the other about who has what APA level?

Who really cares what level anyone plays at if they are probably never going to meet or play that person?

I can say I'm the best/worst in the world, but if we never meet and play, who cares?

i still don't know how they rate you.

Might be simpler than everyone thinks it is...

For 8-ball?
(18)(Total Games Played)/(Total Innings Played - Total Safeties Played) = Skill Level

For 9-ball?
(15)(Total Games Played)/(Total Innings Played - Total Safeties Played) = Skill Level.

And adjusted for the ability level of your opponent. Also determined by the last 20 matches played, but as to whether they count just the wins, or all of them, is unknown. And probably a few other lesser details, just to keep it from being as simple as you make it out to be.

If it were that simple, I'd be going up and/or down in level every other week or two. I am all over the road in my matches, some weeks really good, other weeks really awful. I would have to change Skill Levels frequently, given just that basic formula. Therefore, your formula isn't the whole story on how APA handicaps are determined.

But your formula is probably a pretty close approximation, certainly enough to give someone a basic idea.

Dude, really? Why lie on an internet forum poll? Also, what the F is e-pool?

epool is like email...closely related to efighting, eracing, and keyboard jockying. It means that the internet has this amazing ability to turn amateurs into masters....In real pool, you might be a 3. In epool, you're definitely a 7.

AZBilliards, much like every other internet forum, is full of masters of the trade. Take a look around. Every member of AZB ran a 6pack last weekend.

I've seen it on other forums too. 90% of the people on daytrading forums made half a million last year. 90% of the people on the car forums posted 9.54@162mph last month. And 90% of AZB is a 7/9 in the APA...

I can almost guarantee you that it's not adjusted for your opponent's skill level. That adjustment is made in the handicap. Theoretically, a 9 is going to make 70 balls in the same number of innings that a 2 will make 20 balls. I also don't think win percentage has much to do with anything...theoretically the algorithm will give everybody a .500 win percentage (except for 1's and 9's which include outliers).

Innings/game is a running average. You jump skill levels a lot when you start APA because your total innings and total games are small numbers. After playing 50 matches (~300 games and ~1200 innings), it's going to take an entire session to move your handicap.

Once again, your argument fails. My skill level would HAVE to fluctuate wildly if that basic formula was applied to me, based on the innings played in my matches. I am under your 50-match threshold, but over 20 matches. My innings vary wildly, from 2-3 per game to 12-15. Or better still, averaging 3-4 per match to 10-12 per match. Yet I've been moved a total of two times, from the SL4 all males start at, down to an SL3 for a long period of time, and recently back up to an SL4 again.

A teammate of mine is an SL3, and she has been since she started. Her innings per match have also fluctuated. She and I both have about a 60% winning percentage, a little more or less depending on the week. Still our handicaps don't move.

If you read the leaked court document detailing the "Equalizer" formula, there are quite a few details involved, but the one that sticks out is the "Ability Level" of your opponent. That has to be a portion of the formula. And since that doc was leaked many years ago, one would think that APA has done even more to keep it from being as simple as you make it out to be.

I won't argue that your formula is quite likely to be the basis of how our handicaps are generated. I will tell you that it can't be as simple as that in the final result.

I told the truth. When I used to be an APA 4 I wasn't ashamed. I was honest with myself and still hung around the big guys taking my shots and usually getting whipped. Taking all the advice I could soak in. It is after all just a handicap... a 4 where you live might be a six elsewhere. Don't sweat it, just get better

this is incorrect. only part of equation...and simplified at that. your wins are counted most critical.

also, your best 20 wins. this is what makes it most difficult the longer you play (handicap goes up). this is the jewel of apa's business model. the longer you play, your handicap will rise to where you must play your absolute best to have a chance at beating someone who has just begun in league. also, this raises the bar for team points which makes you have to begin a new team. which you need to bring in new members for...in other words...you become an apa recruiter (more appropriate term is SALESMAN). the perfect business model (client must do all your sales!!!) LOL LOL LOL LOL

If you posted for a while here you would know that Drew is a punk kid who thinks he plays much better than he does. Kind of like a legend in his own mind syndrome.

JMO of course.

:scratchhead:
I am thinking Drew just has that Sandbagging thing backwards.
APA players usually fib the other way Drew.

I didn't lie.....I'm really a 4
I hope to move up soon though. Only had 2 matches this year so far.
