I love the classic style cues but can't figure out why I hate titleist veneers and hoppe ring cues.

In addition I hate the brown and or tan phenolic ring work the kind where you can see the mesh pattern in the material.

Did the voices tell you to post this?

Not really

I just get really bored with all the non pool or billiard related posts in the NPR category threads jamming up our Pool and Billiards site.:)

I may start another thread with all the kinds of cues that I like too if needed.

Funny, I'm the opposite.

I love classic cues with brown phenolic rings and non-steel joints, natural colors or blues and greens in veneers. Oddly, I tend to really dislike notched diamonds and MOP circles. Think plain Tasc four pointer with no inlays...

OP's statement sounds weird, but it's really not. It's ok to like a general style minus some features.

Example: Tate's 57 Chevy Bel Air, may appeal to a wide range of people, but others may only like them when they're rat-rodded out and rusty looking instead of all shiny and chrome...

" titleist veneers "

Makes perfect sense to me - after all, who WOULD like a veneered GOLF BALL? :)

i like... straight grain maple fronts

So Szamboti's don't fall into your "like" category?

I like the old Brunswick cues with really black ebony prongs and red veneers. I like the old cues that used colorful wood, like purpleheart, for the veneers. But dyed veneers are perfectly fine too.

I like the woven wraps, like the Eisenmeister, just don't pull that string.

I don't understand why the one piece Titlists were so beautifully proportioned but the original Willie Hoppe Professionals were fat and butt heavy. Too much drinking perhaps?

The early catalogs/flyers 'claimed' the Hoppe Pro was made to the same specs as
Hoppe's personal cue he played with. Of course, Hoppe's own cue had the pin in the shaft,
but who's counting.
