Hey guys..I bought this cue 3 years ago on Ebay and I paid quite a bit for it because I knew it was a special cue..It is not marked anywhere and it has a very JW look IMO.. The cue has 5 veneers..(Actually it has 6 if you count the double burgundy)..5/16-18 pin.. Delrin buttcap.. Aluminum weight bolt..I have sent pictures to R Black, Barry Szamboti, Tad, Bender, and all say they did not recognize it.. Any Ideas??????

Cue Identity

Looks like an early Joss to me; very typical butt and delrin cap. He used the allen screw very early as well, and the bumper looks like an early Joss too. :D

I haven't seen those veneer colors before, but maybe an early Schon.
The brass pilot on the shaft doesn't look Joss, or Joss West.

Pilot and pin don't look JOSS.

Also, JOSS generally don't have decorative rings at the A joint.

Definitely a cool cue.

I've got to go out for a while. I do some poking around on this one when I get back.

I like that cue.

EDIT: Bumper is not JOSS either.

I don't think it's JOSS or JW or Scruggs family.

Black was mentioned? Maybe. Don't know them well enough.
Tad was also mentioned. There is an interesting possibility. Again, don't know them well enough.

I am thinking it's Seventies era though, and we are guessing in the right kind of genre of makers. The delrin butt cap, weight bolt, wrap, and point length/style all work for that I think.

That ring-work above the wrap with the veneers shared in the points, the very rounded pin, and that pilot are distinctive. That pilot looks so familiar to me but I can't place it or put a name on it.

Thanks for all the opinions on this cue guys.. I agree that it is not Joss and the 18 pin rules out Josswest I think..I contacted Black and Tad and they said no..This one is a real stumper for me.. Any more opinions out there????? The ringwork is exceptional on this cue and I can imagine what the cue would look like with that ringwork at all points..A screamer..!

Don't rule out an old Josswest, I had one made in like '74 w/the same pin. I do not have the cue any longer or I would look under the bumper, but I remember it being a different weight bolt (mine was more industrial looking).

I don't know that Guffey ever used an 18 pin, but the veneer colors look like one of his that I've seen. Don't know how to get a hold of him either.
