O.K. Last night I made my mind up, and told the Wife I am going to either go to the Derby, or to the Earl SVB match coming up. My issue is I don't have a room at the casino, and this is my first time at the Derby, so I'm a noob to the whole location. I don't know how much of a pain it is not to be staying at the casino? but I'm renting a nice car and heading out to one of these deals, so what can you all tell me about this situation? Is it a reality to try to luck into a cancellation at the casino?

If you want to be in the center of the action, I would recommend staying at the casino. If you are just there for a couple days and not playing any events, there are hotels nearby (5-12 miles)...

The player rate at the casino is $120 a night if you are not doing the 9 day block.
 
IMO I think staying at the casino is the way to go. Not having to worry about driving back to the hotel after being up all night sweating the action or if some afternoon the tourney is slow being able to go back to room to chill is great. It just takes away the hassle of having to drive back and forth.

I know some people stay off site and it doesn't bother them. If your only going for the tourney and not the action and don't plan on staying up 20 or 30 straight hours. Then maybe off site would be ok, but otherwise stay at the casino.

I've nvr been to DCC, but have wanted to since year 2 (January is a rough month for me to cut out).

That said, if it were me, I'd go to DCC. The SVB v Earl match will be cool too, but I can just buy the stream from TAR. I think you have to be at DCC to really experience the whole thing.

if you enjoy a few drinks with your pool, staying at the hotel keeps you from driving. just saying..

This is dead on. The derby is all about the experience. You can watch Earl and Shane anytime. The derby is the Mecca of pool. You will not regret going. Just going for two or three days will give you 10 stories to tell the rest of you life.

No matter what you do, I would like to offer some friendly advice. Since I don't know you or your wife, this is general advice. It sounds like you were a little reluctant to make this decision, I assume because you don't take too many trips by yourself and weren't sure how your wife would be about it..

Whatever you do, don't let your individual trip take the place of your family vacation, weekends together, or any other thing you and your wife do together. Don't let it burden her, or put additional responsibilities on her while you're absent.

No matter how great of a husband or father you are, there will be hard feelings if your wife has to give up something for you to make the trip, especially if it becomes an annual event as these these sometimes turn into.

You can show your appreciation for her by doing something really special together that she's been wanting to do.

That being said, Derby is the place.

I'm leaning towards the DCC as well, but I just got off the phone with the Casino and there are no rooms AT ALL right now. 1 night or all 9....zilch!

total bummer. Maybe towards the event something might open? they also do not have a waiting list available as of today anyway.

first of all, is Earl vs SVB match is confirmed for sure that it will actually happen? We know for sure that Earl is up for it hence his sponser posting in here azb. but I haven't seen anywhere/post that SVB did confirm that he is up to play. unless I missed the post of which he/or his sponser confirmed it.

that said, I think if i were you, i'd go to the Derby city, stay in the casino hotel as the other guys suggerted, its a wish for me to go to the derby city because it has a every game tournament , not to mention all the pro's and the event as a whole is such a nice experience... going down from your hotel room to the poolhall , afternoons, nights, is just a great great thing. then after its over you get back to your home, relax, buy the Live stream and enjoy Earl SVB match.\

I thought the Earl SVB match was in February???
Am I missing something...are they playing at the Derby instead?

Wow, that place is 500 rooms - Derby City did well to fill it. I don't think there's anywhere else to stay around there.

Anybody got a room to share for Gerry?
 
derby for sure, you could see many matches as good or better them earl and svb.
I am officially jealous you have those options, have fun no matter what your choice.

Might be able to ask or post something in the action room, I am sure
some of them have rooms booked 4 dcc. You might get lucky and find
someone willing to share their room. Who knows
