I quit Smoking and my GAME has gone to POT

I quit caffiene about a week and a half ago to see if it is going to help me with my BP and maybe eliminate the need for the damn diuretic I take. I have played pool since then, I'm interested to see if it will help or hurt in anyway when I do.

BTW, I quit smoking 40 years ago. I applaud your decision to quit and encourage you to hang in there the pool will come back.

Congratulations on quitting! Keep it up :D

It takes time for one's body to get over an addiction like yours has to nicotine. Be patient.

I recall seeing some poster up in a doctor's office - it was basically a list of things that happen to one's body from the moment they quit smoking. It went through weeks, months, a year for some things.

Stick to it!

Quitting wasn't much of a decision... my doctor told me that after the Stent was installed for my Clogged artery...found out by a Heart Attack... that if I didn't quit, I would have to find another Doctor to work with me... so I quit right then.

My caffeine intake has been reduced to 1/2 cup watered down a day and I found that it is more than enough. I don't drink sodas with caffeine either.
7-up Sprite are non-caffeine plus I really enjoy a cold drink of water, especially when I am in a match.

Yeah... 6+ weeks FREE. Using a great drug called Chantix...

Pool playing suxs, but I can deal with that until I get healthier.

Feb/23/2008 was my 5 year Anniversary smoke free, the pool game will come back, its just withdrawl and it goes away. I used the 7 day smoke away pills and I was done after 3 days.

Good Luck and never never go back.

I just quit myself, two months ago today, on February 16th.

Everybody says how great you feel when you quit smoking, but not for me. I am gaining weight, and my virgin sinus tissues are closed together like Scotch tape from the pollutants in the spring air. My mood is tense, as I cannot seem to go one hour without getting a nibble of something to eat.

If you are losing weight, then you are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY to be commended. That is very difficult, after you quit smoking. To deal with two bad habits at once is a nightmare that just gets worse and worse. :o

I quit sodas a long time ago. I drink a lot of those popular flavored waters today that come in a bottle. Keith quit drinking the beverage of his choice last September of 2005 and has been enjoying the flavored waters a great deal here at the homefront. :)

Crystal Light drink mix is something I enjoy when I am out. Since I don't drink sodas, I just order a bottle of water and pour in the pack of Crysal Light flavoring. Raspberry Ice is my favorite flavor: http://www.kraftfoods.com/CrystalLight/home3.htm

Here's a good snack, Tom, to help you get through the tough times. The flavored rice cakes are GREAT. I get the caramel flavored rice cakes (50 calories). Then I smear on a tablespoon of reduced-fat cream cheese (30 calories), and on top of that I spread one teaspoon of Polaner's All Fruit jelly (30 calories). You must get the Polaner's because there is no sugar added, and it is all natural fruit. This is a real tasty snack, crunchy and delicious. :p

My dentist gave us a prescription of Chandix, but when I read the side effects, I elected to not use the Chandix and went cold turkey. The reason being is the Chandix had a few side effects that made me nervous, one being anxiety and depression. Keith is still smoking cigarettes, but he cannot use Chandix because they are bad for the stomach, and he already takes Nexium for stomach problems. :(

Tom, what will we do at the U.S. Open when everybody is outside having a good time in the smoking lounge?

Congratulations, and keep up the good work! :)

Be careful with Chantix...it has side effects that include crazy dreams, suicidal thoughts and even violent behavior.

I am not a smoker but someone who worked in my dept at work was and he was taking Chantix for about 5 months. The only reason I bring this up was because of my friend. He went to lunch and never came back. I was the lucky one who found him in his car about 5 hrs later, dead from a stroke of some sort. After his death I research Chantix some to see if that could have been involved. No telling, but it was awfully odd to have a normal weight male in his very early 30s die from a stroke. He was a good guy and I think of him often. :(

Congrats Tom!! I really hope you see this through.

Having quit 8 years ago i know what you're going through. I lost the desire to play and practice with any kind of intensity for a spell. I couldn't concentrate at first because there were routines I incorporated with smoking and playing that were now disturbed. Like when I practiced -- I would break a rack of balls and sit down and figure out the runout. I would also light one up while doing this. After I quit, I didn't have the patience to do this anymore because there was no "reward", i.e., the cigarette.

This is a temporary thing though. If you stick through with this, you will find that your concentration gets really strong after a while because you've lost one more thing to take your mind off the game.

Biggest 2nd side effect is losing weight. I've lost 10 lbs. in the last 6 weeks.

I hate you!

WAT TO GO, TOM!!! 29 years for me, cold turkey, with no chemical help. Really wasn't anything to use at that time, anyway.
I hesitate to share this with you, but I wanted to smoke for 7 years after I stopped. I guess I just wanted to stop bad enough to hang in there. Just take it one day at a time!!

I've been clean for 18 months after 30 years of pack-a-day. I was skeptical but went to a hypnotist that some friends recommended. Smartest $80 I've ever spent. It was amazing. He basically got me to forget about smoking. Sometimes I start thinking about lighting up and the thought just leaves. His name is Robert Ash in Lansing, Illinois in case anyone's interested.

congrats!! I too have quit and it has been only a month for me. I get the cravings once in a while but I find the smell of it a bit disgusting now dunno why. Kinda ironic though that I've been getting sick lately.... And in regards to my pool game I think I just naturally suck :D
