I Think it's Time...

...that a completely new section exclusively for these cue raffles is established.

As a long time AZ member, I have got to say, that I am just about tired of even coming into the the Wanted/For Sale section anymore because of all of the raffles going on....for which the entire concept was flat out stolen from another site to begin with.

I am the first to admit, that the occasional raffle can be fun...but this has gotten ridiculously out of hand, and is, IMHO, seriously impacting those who wish to sell or trade cues the 'old fashioned' way...a straight up sale, with a price listed, and pics posted.

I am not even going to get into the fact that there are some 'raffles' where the final tally of all monies to spots sold far exceed the cue's true potential market value. Also...sure makes it much easier for the rip-off artists to get away with something. Much harder to prosecute for multiple small dollar amounts, as opposed to nailing someone with one big amount.

I would NEVER enter into a raffle with someone that I do not know or trust....and let's face it, with all the bad deals in the past 6 months here...there are very few that I would trust! Also...too many of these raffles are quite vague as to their terms. But it's y'all's hard earned dollars...caveat emptor!

I just happen to think that all these raffles and auctions (we're an auction site now?) is just terribly unfair to those who are really trying to just sell a cue. Those ads are getting woefully lost and bumped to the far pages entirely too quickly...because of all the responses to the raffle threads...and that is not really fair to those people who can ill afford to spend all day continually bumping their FS threads back to the front page just to keep up with all the raffle threads.

Mike/Dave...can we please move these raffles to their own section so that others here have half a chance at getting their true FS and/or Wanted ads the equal exposure they deserve?

Lisa

I'm not sure they can actually offer a "Raffle Section" cause they are illegal in many states. There may be legal issues.

Prohibit raffles? Create a Raffle Forum?

They really don't bother me at all. I think the raffle craze is an indication of the depressed cue prices. Don't you think the frequency of raffles will soon run its course? All raffle ticket buyers are disappointed except one!;)

They may be addictive kinda like the dollar slots in Vegas.

Right?

Josh....I don't view them unless someone points one out to me to ask my opinion...which is again, done behind the scenes.

Additionally, if there have been other threads on this subject, then I apologize, as I do not spend nearly as much time in the forums as I once did...but do try to hit them once a day. Perhaps those threads got bumped back to oblivion as well. :p

Personally, I could care less if these raffles continue or not,
I just feel, and apparently I am not alone in this feeling, that everyone from both camps of thought, might well be better served by allowing for a separate section for both types of activity...streamlining it certainly couldn't hurt.

BTW....you're still newer than me! ;) :)

This is completely opposite of your other post! Make up your mind.............

I hope I can go to the Kabob place for lunch today. I like the hot sauce with the chicken and the garlic paste. Not too spicy, but hints at a real kick. It is especially good with a fork-full of rice. They have a really good salad dressing too, I think they put crack in it because if I don't have it regularly, I really start to crave it. Like the past weekend, I took Friday off and went to Durham, NC for a cousin's wedding and I last had the dressing a week ago and I really need it. I am hungry! Did anyone ever read 'Naked Lunch' by W.S. Burroughs? That was weird, especially the part where he wrote the story and then re-spliced all the sentences. I wonder how it would've read it it's original order. Probably wasn't coherent, the cause for the shuffle. I wish Bruce would shuffle away from his keyboard for a lifetime or so. I also like the tofu pad thai but is is like $12 for lunch there and so crowded that I can barely get there and back in the hour I have for lunch. But it really is tasty with lime all over it. Wonder what Corvette is having for lunch today.

No doubt this is the funniest thing I have ever read as a member of this forum. Thanks for the laughs man.

Great point!!!

Yeah, we might as well list what we had for lunch and dinner - at least a thread like that has a reason to be disliked - Unless you are trading that Kabob for a cue.

Any interest in a custom pool cue for your Kabob?
I really like Lime sauce!!!

Or maybe you can RAFFLE IT OFF!!!!!!:D :D

The more people down the raffle, the more free publicity they get, and the more you will see them.

I spend plenty of time here on AZB, and the few extra keystrokes it takes me to pass a thread I do not want to see doesn't bother me, and my time is valuable. And this bumping of anti-raffle posts causes more items for sale off the main page than anything. Because a raffle is still SELLING a cue - a unique way to do it, but still involves a cue, and a sale!!

These long tirades about the WHO/WHAT/WHEN/WHY/& HOW of raffles are getting really annoying. I come here to BUY/SELL/TRADE cues - not for long-winded discussions about HOW TO SELL. They sell books for that, and please go populate the NPR forum - IT COULD USE THE HEALTHY DISCUSSIONS!!!

Im glad its as annoying to you as these retarded "raffles" are to me and apparently alot of other members here.......... And you dont have to read them if you are annoyed by them,RIGHT?? JIMO of course.........:)

Of course - I do not have to read them

YEP, you got that right. I do not NEED to read them, but I am also not starting a thread about the good, the bad, or the ugly on them. HAVE YOU??? Just posting my opinion, and not losing any sleep over it - since it is truly how I feel. Actually I find the whole debate quite funny and entertaining. The stated reasoning behind the stoppage of raffles is hilarious. I really wish people would be more honest about their reasons, because then people might be more understanding of the true issues here. Check my signature for my thought on opinions - how true it is!

We should all stop kicking the dead horse - let's make glue instead!!!

JMHO - Which I will be raffling off for 100 spots @ $50 each. It might be expensive for some, but it is worth much more than that, since a TRULY HONEST statement has been more difficult to find around here recently. Just shop around AZB, and you will see that this is the STEAL of the WEEK!!! But once again - this is JMHO:p

How many times are you going to post the same quote?

Why is it that people feel so utterly compelled to beat a dead horse until they change someone's mind? I wasn't trying to change anyone's minds here. Obviously some people like the raffles, others don't...it is what it is. I am entitled to my opinion, as you are yours.

I personally feel that the raffles in the main Wanted/For Sale section does a huge disservice to those who are trying to make straight sales, as if that isn't hard enough already, by knocking those threads back a lot sooner than perhaps they would normally be...every time a name is added to a raffle thread, it bumps back another straight sale thread...this is a fact, all one has to do is pick a straight sale thread and watch it for a few hours...it'll wind up back on page 3,4, or 5 rather quickly when an active raffle thread is taking place. The way this is handled in a forum which pioneered the cue raffle is that the raffles are made into a Sticky...thereby not impacting the normally posted threads.

Since there are more of these raffles happening here, it is fairly unreasonable to expect the Mods to create a Sticky for each and every one, which is why I suggested a separate sub-section for the raffles. It leaves the Wanted/For Sale section as it was originally intended, and allows those looking to participate in the raffles a quick and easy data base to immediately access. Just makes good sense to me...common sense, actually.

I almost missed this post...which is a good point. If the raffles are in fact illegal, they are gonna be illegal whether they are posted in the main Wanted/For Sale, or a Raffle sub-section. This is something the Mods may wish to look into, before it comes back to bite them in the backside.

Lisa

I think the raffles are ok in my book. I mean the cue market is HORRIBLE right now and people are not selling cues at market value even from the best makers around. So the raffles guarantee the seller that they get fair market value for their cue and people are happy because they might say pick up a SouthWest for 75 bucks or something. I see nothing wrong with them. I might even get in a few of these myself:D

I'm probably and more than likely wrong here but I'd think raffles for cues are legal unless someone is making a ton of money off of them (getting more than MSRP, etc.). Having a raffle on a cue worth $100 and getting $500 in raffles could be a problem I'd think.

Plus I dont think the site has anything to do with the raffles (I know its on their boards, but they have no hand in the money and are not making any money off of them) so I dont see how it could bite them in the rear IMHO.

I do not think it matters if the site is making any money or not, they may be culpable for allowing the activity to take place. Sort of akin to a strip club looking the other way while a dancer provides a bit more...maybe not the best example...LoL. This is not gospel, of course, I would have to defer to those with more legal expertise than myself.

Doing a raffle that equals the asking price is no different than selling it outright for the same price. AZ would not be responsible for any postings on here. Thats like me threatning you or saying "Im going to kill you" and you say AZ is responsible because its on their board. I just dont see how its any different than selling cues. The same amount of money is being passed and a cue is being shipped out.

As bad as the market is right now, I wouldnt try to sell anything either. I'd raffle it off.

I'm still sitting here with a Jim Lee Custom Wenge Cue with American Oak points that we are trying to sell and nobody will bite even at $350. Thats the same price as Meucci's sell for:confused: Thats why people are raffling and I dont blame them one bit.

But like you said in your last sentence, I'm not always up to par on the law and dont act like I do;)

Edit: Another example is there is sometimes bets on here between members. Gambling is illegal in my state, but AZ is not responsible, only the posters involved. JMHO.

Sounds like good and valid points...no argument here. :)
