...that a completely new section exclusively for these cue raffles is established.

As a long time AZ member, I have got to say, that I am just about tired of even coming into the the Wanted/For Sale section anymore because of all of the raffles going on....for which the entire concept was flat out stolen from another site to begin with.

I am the first to admit, that the occasional raffle can be fun...but this has gotten ridiculously out of hand, and is, IMHO, seriously impacting those who wish to sell or trade cues the 'old fashioned' way...a straight up sale, with a price listed, and pics posted.

I am not even going to get into the fact that there are some 'raffles' where the final tally of all monies to spots sold far exceed the cue's true potential market value. Also...sure makes it much easier for the rip-off artists to get away with something. Much harder to prosecute for multiple small dollar amounts, as opposed to nailing someone with one big amount.

I would NEVER enter into a raffle with someone that I do not know or trust....and let's face it, with all the bad deals in the past 6 months here...there are very few that I would trust! Also...too many of these raffles are quite vague as to their terms. But it's y'all's hard earned dollars...caveat emptor!

I just happen to think that all these raffles and auctions (we're an auction site now?) is just terribly unfair to those who are really trying to just sell a cue. Those ads are getting woefully lost and bumped to the far pages entirely too quickly...because of all the responses to the raffle threads...and that is not really fair to those people who can ill afford to spend all day continually bumping their FS threads back to the front page just to keep up with all the raffle threads.

Mike/Dave...can we please move these raffles to their own section so that others here have half a chance at getting their true FS and/or Wanted ads the equal exposure they deserve?

I promise

This is the 1st and the last raffle I will ever do on here .Sorry if
it bothered you or anyone else .Bad thing is it will probably be the
last time I buy anything else either .I have 3 spots left .If you want
to buy one that will leave 2 and this raffle will be over ;)

I totally agree that raffles are used as a mean to gather more value than the cue worth. This will disrupt the secondary cue value valuation. But people out to get a quick profit will love a Raffle. Gamble on people. :)

Please create a Raffle section.

Lets put an end to all this in the wanted for sale section.

Its getting too messy.

Not a bad idea, considering that the number of anti-raffle threads probably exceeds the number of raffle threads.

Raffles

I also have few ideas.

We can have seperate sections for the following

1)custom cues and production cues so that person looking for either are not confused and can find the right cue very quickly.
1a)custom cue section can be further subdivided into like szamboti, ginacue, southwest, balabushka etc so that the person looking for a particular cue maker can straight away get to the right cue.
1b)production cues can be the same as custom classified as per different brands.
2)we can have seperate section for new and old cues.so that the sellers of new cues do not get hurt by the people selling old cues.
3)and than they could be divided as per value of the cue i.e.<100<200 etc
4)cue sections can also be classified as if they have sneaky pete or points or plain janes.
5)also sections can be divided as per joints on the cue
6)also as the number of anti raffle threads have exceeded than the raffle threads i will reccomend a all the anti raffle threads shifted to a seperate section as well.

I am thinking about more ways as well........will keep updating

Just because you have one on going really does not mean that every suggestion against it is directed at you. Nobody likes a smart ass.

There has been too many raffle thread in a short span of time. Have them segregated may be good for people looking for them as well as the current wanted for sale section as it will not have to push down a thread someone that has something for sale every time someone updates a name to a raffle thread.

I do not have a lot in the way of disposable income these days, as is the case with many others here. However, if I did happen to have it, and saw something I really liked, from someone that I recognized as a well respected and established seller, then I would buy. Also, when I do buy on the secondary...it is usually well behind the scenes. I have also sold several cues here...most pre-iTrader, and have NEVER had an unhappy or disappointed buyer, as I am very forthcoming with complete cue descriptions, prices, pics, and communication. Every one of my sales went through within 24 hours of posting the FS thread.

Truth be told...I am incredibly picky about my cue purchases, and in this newer climate...incredibly cautious. I am also fortunate enough that I get along well with most cuemakers, and have a great deal of respect for what it is they do, and am known for NOT being a flipper. This allows me to deal directly with the cuemaker...which I find to be, in general, a much more pleasant experience, and infinitely less stressful.

With that said, so far, with the few responses to this thread received so far....the ones who tend to be 'pro-raffle' are those who would be considered newbies to AZ...which surprises me not at all.

Consider this.....times are getting extremely tough for many of our members here. Not everyone can make the big bucks. There are many here that are posting up their cues for sale that would have never done so even a year ago. These members have a real and immediate need to liquidate. By having their FS threads continually bumped back 4,5, or 6 pages or more in less than a day's time because of the continued responses to raffle threads...makes it much more difficult for them to accomplish a much needed sale.

All I am requesting of the AZ Mods is to move these raffle threads to their own section. Seems to me it would be a good move for all considered....directing the much desired traffic in a much more orderly and expedient fashion. I do not see any downside to this.

What's The Point?

I been staying out of this but here it goes..

Complaints about raffles... Is it that hard to just avoid the thread rather than complain? They hurt nobody... The market is in the crapper...

There's been no more than 5 raffles at a time and they're straight up.. Hard to cheat the power ball for the lottery.. With pages and pages full of cues being offered for sale or trade, Certainly 5 threads can't honestly be taking away from the forum.

How about the people who would not buy or could not buy some of these cues? Now they have a chance to get something they may desire at a very low cost. So, how about the flip side to a guy who gets a South West for $75, or a Rick Howard for $100.. A Mace break jump for $15, a Sugar Tree for $100..

There's already been multiple threads about the same complaints on raffles, Including making a new section for them.. So why keep starting new ones when you can just reply to those?

These threads are taking up more space then the raffles that are being complained about. But that doesn't bother me.. I'm just simply giving my worthless opinions on it all..

and for the ones saying people are getting more than a cue is worth this way.. Well good for them.. If it's within reason of a few hundred more than they could sell it for so what? Why try and block them? It's not costing you anything.. If you think it's out of line you have the freedom to not enter it..

Much like we have the freedom to complain or not to about this small stuff..

Anyway, I can't believe I wasted time writing about this stuff.. But that's my take on it.. and I mean no offense to anyone.. I believe the debate on the raffles being good or bad is a no win for either side. Simply because there will be just as many that don't like them as to the ones who do.

Again, I mean no offense to anyone at all and these are just my worthless opinions on the subject at hand.....

and I'm not a newbie.. :-)

Josh....I don't view them unless someone points one out to me to ask my opinion...which is again, done behind the scenes.

Additionally, if there have been other threads on this subject, then I apologize, as I do not spend nearly as much time in the forums as I once did...but do try to hit them once a day. Perhaps those threads got bumped back to oblivion as well. :p

Personally, I could care less if these raffles continue or not, I just feel, and apparently I am not alone in this feeling, that everyone from both camps of thought, might well be better served by allowing for a separate section for both types of activity...streamlining it certainly couldn't hurt.

BTW....you're still newer than me! ;) :)

Lenny, I never said that they were ripping people off...but the potential is most certainly there, as it is there in a straight sale. You're just looking at a larger group of people potentially being duped, with an individually lower dollar amount involved...making it much more difficult to seek legal recourse.

No need to apologize, I completely understand not liking something.

I could care less about the raffles.. But I do like that I could throw down from $15 to $100 if I wanted and possibly end up with anything from a Mace to a South West for that amount.

I agree Lisa.

I also like the idea behind these raffles. :)

Even more i would like 3 Different Categories.

- Custom Cues (from Custom Cuemakers)
- Produktion Cues ( Schon, Predator, Joss ..... )
- Raffles ( all kind of stuff )

I think this would help all parties.
This would help to keep this section clearly arranged.
Also too keep down the need of bump's

Just a Thought ....;)

I could go for that, categories are a good idea, perhaps raffles/auctions,trades,cases,production cues and custom cues. :)

I like your idea and I think it's a good one. I mentioned possibly creating a separate section for raffles in another thread, but I like your idea better of separating custom from production cues in their own section and raffles for anything in another.

The wanted/for sale section is full of all kinds of stuff now and some of the threads shouldn't even be in that section to begin with. I don't have anything against raffles and there's nothing wrong with the idea, but I think the forum would be more organized if the wanted for sale section could be divided like you suggest.

James

Great idea Lisa. We definitely need a separate section and I think Berny's idea of the three sections is the way to go. Maybe just add one more for Cases and Accessories.
