I was glad to be back...until now

If this were your forum, Barton, you'd be talking to yourself because there wouldn't be anyone here to listen.
Since you've been back you've done nothing but stir shit, yet you blame others for the problems here at AZB.
Not once have I ever heard you welcome a new member. Not once have I ever heard you congratulate a member on a job well done.
Every forum has someone like you, Barton, and you're it.

I enjoy your posts, Mr. Tramp Steamer, but on this subject, I respectfully disagree.

It takes two to tango, as they say. ;)

John is good peeps. If you ever get to meet him, get to know him, you may think so too.

I've definitely toned it down a bit on here as I find it is sort of useless to get into an argument in an online forum. It is very possible that the person I am arguing with on here would actually become a friend after a beer and just chit chatting about pool in real life. I sometimes regress a bit calling out a troll, but overall I have done much better just not responding to certain topics and just enjoying the actual good content instead (weed out the good and ignore the bad basically).

Nonsense. I was gone a year and the same old nonsense continued unabated. The forum continued to lose good posters and good content.

The stats don't lie. The membership # grows, the # of thoughtful good writers dwindles. The number of industry veterans and pros who post is down considerably.

Funny that my forum though on FB - using my rules along with rules voted in by the community - thrives well beyond all similar groups and we have twice as much membership as the next nearest group. All the top sellers are there and we have industry people as members who step up to engage with consumers who ask questions. Flamewars are generally crushed inside an hour and most people abide by the rules. Those who don't are warned and they then either abide by them of commit forum suicide and the problem is solved.

I was often told if you don't like go start your own and I did and it works. To that end I also do have more sympathy for Mike and Jerry and what they face running a forum. I don't agree with how they run AZB and have told them that. So we agree to disagree and I am ok with that.

As for attacking me personally....yes Tramp I am argumentative. Yes I will not tolerate nonsense trolling attacks to go unanswered. But I am not the problem. When trolling members are eliminated, as weeds are removed from a garden, it allows for productive and peaceful and knowledgeable members to thrive.

Having to use a real name to post makes all the difference.

IMHO

I don't entirely disagree with that either. There are some anonymous members on OBM as well for good reasons that they have told me in confidence. My rule there is no fake names and we generally check it by having people vouch for each other.

I'm from Missouri, Miss Jam. The "Show-Me" State. Allow me to quote a famous Missourian. "Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining."

I thought that quote came from a Texan; Lyndon B. Johnson, to be exact. :grin-square:

I first got started on pool forum at pool.bz. Then that site got hacked and compromised. I was on there for quite awhile, wrote a decent blog w subscribers. People were mostly nice and civil. Much smaller community.

When that site was no longer safe I came here. That was about three years ago. It didn't take long for me to realize what the op started this thread on. Omg, know it alls all over. Sharp remarks. A flipping typo would get you flamed it seemed. It wasn't long and I left the pool discussion.

So this last year my pool play reduced dramatically and just now I'm getting back to playing daily. Thought I would come back and poke around. I think it was my first or second post and the same know it all starts in.

Don't know how long I'll stick around this time. Before I read this thread I was thinking about how much ego is here. I was suspicious that was what this thread was about.

I also am on a jeep forum frequently. The difference in civility is just stunning.

I wish members here had to participate in a pool tourney. Then have their results tagged on their username. It would be fun to see who's good on paper and who's actually good on a table.
