Okay, not really. But, I kicked a ball in 2 rails and got shape on the next ball....was chalking up when I realized jose was watching me. Why the hell is parica watching me was my thought at the time. Tried taking some deep breaths to calm my nerves took the shot and missed a pretty easy one.

To answer my own question I made one hell of kick and thats why he was watching me. Any of you who have had problems "getting rid" of the crowd in your mind have some tricks to refocus on the game?

Dude, I hate to burst your bubble, but he probably just happened to be glancing/walking by.

You could run 8 racks in front of that guy and he would not be impressed in the slightest. In fact, if you did that, you may get his attention, but he'd be asking you to play for a grand or 2.

These guys have seen it all, nobody can impress them. It is just a sad fact. Even if the Tiger Woods of pool showed up, he'd probably just yawn and say to himself "I woulda easily taken him when i was 29."

Yawn.....I wasn't saying he was afraid of me. Just that he was watching a b+/A- player(eg a nobody) make a nice kick shot and was in fact watching me play for maybe a min (prob.) until he saw me miss the next ball lol.

Now do you actually have an answer to my question?

BTW all the top players watch other players play....I don't know if they are impressed or trying to figure out what their weaknesses are. But,they do. Santos was really interested in another nobody that wasn't really doing much on the next table to him...Jose had to tell him it was his turn.

walk over and punch him in the face!!!! you'll feel way more calm around him after you smack him around some. and then he'll start being sharked when he notices you're looking at him

That's basically exactly what I decided to do, if it comes up again. But not the punching part.

LMFAO....And actually kind of a valid point at the same time.

The fact that you even knew he was there is the problem. I'd say you need to work on your focus.

Yeah, I was "at the table" in my mind and then I just felt the knowing eyes. Anyways, like I said I know my focus was the problem. But, we all lose focus at some point. Any suggestions on bringing myself back to the table. I just took a couple deep breaths and then tried focusing on teh shot. Obviously didn't work in this situation though.

See most people like to walk with there eyes open,I know I know it sounds kind of strange but seems to be the in thing now.I find myself getting less injurys as I also have started walking with my eyes open.If you find it odd that a guy like Jose is watching you then you have to start playing with your eyes closed;)

Then I wouldn't be able to get any action with any of the bar league players :(

He is right here, to deal with the crowd never look at it. When I'm in a match i never let my eyes off the table. Changed my game when i started to do this.

Interesting....Seems to me when I watch the good players get distracted-they acknowledge it. Stand up from a shot look over-then bring themselves back. Always seemed to make sense to me. If there is a problem in your life is it ever good to ignore it? Not saying that it doesn't work for you. Just it doesn't seem ideal to me. I will have to try that out though. I do know if I am " in the zone" I don't hear or see anything other than the table...But, when I am out of stroke....

Jack Nicklaus had some very interesting thoughts on this type of thing. I'm paraphrasing:

"If you are focused on the intricacies of the task at hand, and care about nothing more than how to get that ball in the hole, your problems with concentration and being intimidated will all take care of themselves."

To give you a serious answer, its weird I to get distracted easy because when I am down on a ball my side vision is so good I see everthing else around me no matter how focused i am on the shot.I feel like I should where blinders when I play but then I would look like a dink or just more of one!Sometimes instead of getting rid of a issue you think you might have just find a way to perfect it.Some people might have a bad habit that seems to never go away so they actually find a way to induct it into there game and make it a positive outcome!Goodluck Scott

don't be afraid or embarrassed to regroup

If standing up and taking a few slow smooth deep breaths doesn't do it have a sudden bathroom emergency and go wash your face, neck, and hands taking your time doing it. Rather than being rattled by it think how cool it is that somebody like that is even casually interested in how you play! Nobody really knows what somebody is thinking while they watch. They may be really focused on what you are doing or they may be thinking that their grass needs mowing.

Remember the crowd is only watching to be entertained. Few are heavily invested in if you win or lose. Your match isn't important to them, their attention isn't important to you. Keeping things in perspective helps you not get rattled to begin with.

To me it sounds like you were looking elsewhere for a nod or a wink at how great of a shot you made, but whats the point of looking for that ego boost? There lies the problem from your description above as I read your post. We have all done it, you, like the rest of us found out how meaningless the action of looking around to see who Saw...........was.

The problem is "footsteps". It's what the receiver hears just before he gets popped in a football game. Nothing more than human nature and with some experience you can stop being affected by it.

I found a way to help get over it a little quicker than experience, though. Put a few tacks in your shoes while you're playing. Do a systems check after an hour or so. You will probably find you don't shive a git about those "footsteps" and who's watching your game.

Don't thank me...just glad I could help.

Best,
Mike
