my inconsistensy is getting less frequent
i posted on here before about having an injury to my arm which hindered my game. i still have a lot of problems with it but have learned to block out the pain. you know the saying; grin and bear it lol.
putting that aside i have been working on 2 things that have improved my game.
the 1st item is safties. being an old bar banger i was always strictly an offensive player. i still am a lot but i have started utilizing more safties in my game when the situation warrants.
the 2nd item was brought to my attention by an old teamate i had not seen in a few years till 2 months ago. i changed my money league team to a different night and we wound up playing his team.
we were up 3-0 then i put my self up teasing him and calling him out. btw i am a 4 and he is an 8. well he put up a 4 against me and i won 4-1. after wawards he andi were shooting the bul over a few beers and talking over old times . i asked him why with them down 3-0 he threw out a 4 against me instead of him or another high level player.
he told me i was an oustanding player that could hang with any 7 or 8 in the league but was just as apt to give a 4 the match. i said what ? he said i was a very good player and i held myself back. he said i quite often play down to the level of my opponent.
i dwelled on that for a few days and replayed every match i could think of over and over in my head . he was right. i lost to lower level opponents more than i did to higher level.
i have renewed my focus to play my best game no matter who the opponent. as another friend told me a while back but it went over my head, dont play your opponent, play the table.
its paying off. i looked up my apa lifetime stats tonight.
4 months ago my 8 ball winning % was 51% it is now 53%
9 ball was 54% and is now 58%
this session so far 8 ball is 62% and 9 ball is 63%.
hopefully if my old age does not slow me down i will get back to where i was before i hurt my arm. i used to be a 7 in bca 5 years ago.
thanks for letting me share this on your thread lock.
