I'd just like to say concerning the APA

Guys quit blaming the league.. it's the people, not the league.

If you think about it, the system they have is absolutely brilliant. It forces teams to break up true, but by doing this it forces new people into the game and this repeats itself over and over. 2 years ago our 8 ball division out here in the sticks of middle florida had 6 teams... there's 14 now. 9 ball had 6 there's 10 now... this is just the travel league and just one division of many in the surrounding counties.

8 ball more then double it's size in 2 years. What do you think will be happening when all those new people start telling all their friends and so on?

Now I can go out to the bars on friday and saturday night and the pool tables are FILLED with people that play league practicing and basically revolving the entire bar around what's happening on the tables. Previously this was never the case. Now there are constant talks of getting new sticks, tables, balls etc. etc.

The APA itself is awesome for pool because the system is designed to GROW not to make you RICH.

It's the people that screw it up, not the league.

I'll reserve judgement until my concerns have been address by HQ APA. Then again it doesn't matter because no matter what they do I am playing elsewhere.

You got a shitty LO that apparently deserves to lose his license.. don't think the whole batch of apples is just as bad dude.

I agree
The first time I played in the cities (the first time I played in APA in Charlotte about 12 years ago) it was held at a VFW with about 12 Valleys and lasted one day...maybe two.

Fast forward 10 years of not playing pool and I pick it up again because my buddy needed someone on his 8 ball team. We make it to the cities again and I am think well this will be uneventful. I find it is held at the Expo and I walk in to find over 80 Diamonds and a tournament that takes 5 days to complete because there are now tons of people playing APA in the Charlotte area.

I won't ever say that the APA is perfect, but you can't argue from what I just typed that the APA gets people playing pool.

I don't play in the APA, but I've strongly considered it, and watched all the apa "how to score" videos and whatnot - and I have to say, the system is impressive and should account for the varying levels of players involved.

The problem is... as with any and all organized competition in billiards - people try to take advantage of the system.

If everyone just went out and played their best, leagues would be so much better. But people, for some reason or another, don't want a challenge... they want a cakewalk. So they dump games to keep their low rating, so they can have an easy time in the finals or championships or however that works.

I play in a very similarly structured local league and it's the same there.

Whoever said it's not the league, it's the people is dead on, in my opinion.

ROFLMAO.

Yeah, they are doing something right. Making money.

Funny the kinda support cash will get you. Jeanette Lee is bought and paid for.

Ms. Lee really does seem to believe in what she's doing in supporting the APA. I'm guessing she's wealthy enough that money is not a major consideration in her decision. I've seen interviews with her talking about it, and a video of her travelling around meeting APA operators and players. AFAICS she's a principled enough person not to merely support s-th publicly because of a pay check.

Therein lies the fault of your logic. If a system allows for the corruption of one person to alter the outcome of a tournament, it is by definition not 'brilliant'.

There is not one thing that man can govern over that will not be in someway faulted.

We're not Gods.

Dude. lol. She's a paid spokesperson for a successful business. What's exactly is there for her not to believe in ? No one is accusing APA of making kids in china sit in a sweat shops and calculate your scoresheets every week for a nickel an hour... lol.

They are a good BUSINESS. They make money, The business plan is sound. Fux it's better than sound! how many other BUSINESSES gets folks like you defending them and singing their praises while lining their pockets week in and week out? Only wish I woulda thought of it first.

With that said, I got league tonight... Got a couple new players on one of my teams I need to work with. Big night, Im really looking forward to it.

And just what is wrong with their making money? Without the incentive of making money there would be no pool rooms to play in, there would be nobody making pool tables, there would be nobody making pool cues. Without money making incentive there would be no mordern medicines and our life expectancy would be much lower.
Without the incentive of making money, the internet would not exist in it's current form and this forum would not exist for you to state your views.

There is nothing wrong with the APA, it's executives, and it's LOs making money, even a lot of money.

The OP was right.

Nothing wrong with a business making money. The handicapping system in the APA is terrible though. Teams are always having to break up. It is kind of like a pyramid scheme. Break up and start new teams. I've been playing APA for 8 or 9 years, but it is about all there is to offer. Seen lots of sandbaggers trying to get to Vegas. There should be a handicapping system where everyone shoots their best. And yes, Jennette Lee does it for the money. I would too!

it is designed after a pyramid scheme.... it's designed to grow.. when it reaches where it needs to be, THEN you'll see the masters become what they want it to be ( no 23 rule ).

there's going to be sandbaggers in any handicap.. that's just the nature of it regardless of whether it's APA.

lemme explain what I mean by the masters real quick..

Those higher skill level players like 6's 7's and up ( the black tier is what they're called here ) that are being "pushed" out due to the 23 rule... well the reasoning there is so that eventually they get so numerous that we get a "major league".. where all the big boys play.. the masters division.

Cocobolo Cowboy I used to feel the same way about doctors. However my stepson just graduated med school and I now see things in a new light. Four years at Notre Dame, four years at LSU med school, starting five years residency at Boston Medical Center as I type and one year fellowship not yet determined. The time studying, dedication, and sacrifices this kid made to become a doctor is nothing short of amazing. Not to mention the cost involved. We are very proud parents. Doctors deserve every penny they receive.

Sure there is sandbaggin in every league. If everyone in APA wants to see a lot of it go away then every team in the league needs to start scoring properly. If the safeties are properly marked week in and week out all of these super 3's who play like 5's and 6's will quickly be raised. The worst thing you can do for a sandbagger is not properly record all safeties played. If you don't believe me try it.

When that 3 beats your 5 and the total innings played were 20 but if the safeties are properly recorded and that 20 inning win goes down to 8-12 you will see that 3 raised to a 4 sooner than later.
