identify palmer/frank paradise cues

lets bump it up one more time to get a little more input, thanks to all that have contributed to my quest............... jeff(GUNMAN)

actually, they are mitered. it was just not on a perfectly true Axis's when it was turned. that also makes one side of the veneer wider than the other as it shifts the center slightly to one side. this also moves the centerline of the point, giving the stacked miter appearance.

At first I thought it was a Fedunka or something like that with a Spain blank, which would have explained a lot. Then I looked closely at the veneer colors. The pics that were sent to me had more of the Adams blank look, you know, the Macassar or Rosewood points and the orange color veneer. The joint pin is similar to the early Adam cues. But the inlays looks to me like they were scribed by hand, much rougher than an Adam. And they used two different sized diamonds in the points - pretty unusual.

The more I looked, I just confused myself more and more. It does make more sense that the MOP buttcap was a later replacement, but it does look like the early Palmer material that was used in the early 1970's.

I need to talk with Gordon someday and see if he'll admit to using Adam blanks. I know damn well he used others.

Huh? other than a mother of plastic but cap, there is no similarity at all.

any possibility of this being a national cue? did they not also do that style of joint with the small steel collar on the shaft?

It is more than likely a Viking or Adams cue. I say Adams-Helmstetter with a wood plug to hold a bumper that has been added reciently or at least in the last 10 years.

Does it look like the insert in the shaft is aluminum? If it is I was told several years ago that this kind of work could possibly be a National cue built by Ricco Cervantes.

I have adams shafts with the aluminum inserts, they look a little bit like a helicoil compared to regular brass insert.sort of primative. never have seen them on a national though.

Let me add one more vote for National - National Tournament IIRC

I've reworked a couple - if it is a an AL insert, even more likely.
But, the real tipoff is the metal ring on the shaft.
That was a standard Viking joint - Nat Tournys looked so
much like Vikings, few people could tell them apart.

BTW - the wrap looks like Cortland Dacron green spot line.

i looked at the cue this morning , the collar on the shaft is aluninum,but the insert is brass....thanks for all the input jeff(GUNMAN)
 
I think its an early Adams. The reason it's not one of the Jersey boys, (Fedunka/Mayer) is they would have done a Paradise / Palmer style butt plate. Cue maybe worth a few hundred if its straight.
