Can anyone shed an ideas of this ferrule material. It is soft and when I faced it gave off a strange odor that I am not familiar with.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance Neil

I really do not know. The joint on the handle side, has the same material.
It is a customers cue from the Philippines custom made for him, but he does not know what the material is either.
They have been unable to contact the maker of the cue.

You said it was soft so I would rule out cue ball. It looks like a form of cheap abs. Coming from over seas it could be just about anything.

You should see what's underneath the ferrule. LOL...a short tenon that doesn't run true. I don't even bother putting new tips on these shafts. I cue the tenon off and replace that too.

I don't know what the material is. I just know that sometimes, the whole ferrule pops off.

I believe they are made with the tip attched like a slip on tip.

Ferrule

Worked on several of them some form of plastic - if you ever cut plexiglass that's what it's smells like - I have a small room I do repair work in (6 x 10) & I have to have the door open & a fan going its that awful

I suppose you can call it an educated guess, LOL.

Efrin's Uncle Jessy cue had a cast phenolic ferrule made from a cue ball so there's a sort of a mystique associated with that. Since those polyester cue balls are a dime-a-dozen, a few use them to make ferrules and capitalize by saying "cue ball ferrule" or what ever ...even if it's not phenolic. I know one lower-tier maker there has used the polyester balls for ferrules, collars and even butt-caps.

Does the Poly ester have a smell like acrylic when being turned.
If so, then that could well be what the material is.

Thank you to all who have made suggestions.
