Identifying your AZB handle in "real life".

Of course I can't change the rules of the game, but this is all about what some of us feel should be done. And I'm sure it isn't going to happen.

Why was this subject even brought up if people aren't free to offer opinions about it?

I don't understand... people are giving their opinions in this thread.

Some give up their names, some don't. It's not a big deal to most of us. The question posted was to find out why...

I know you don't agree with the anonymity of this forum, but I still go back to my post before. People show their true colors, either in person or in their posts. I know two specific people on AZB that will call out anyone on the forums... AND in person. The computer screen is not stopping them.

Also, I see it in person all the time. You mention the pros wont post here, but I see them have to deal with hecklers even in person all the time. People aren't afraid to antagonize some of the pros while they play in matches or exhibitions, etc.

I see your point, but I've seen too many people act the same on here as in person, so I just don't agree.

Poor taste...hhmmph!

Well, it is since above the photo it says, "Rest in peace."

Some background, her beloved cat just recently passed away. So, it's a little raw still.

No harm no foul, though; not everyone knew.

BTW, good question you posed for this thread!

Your thread got a bit twisted

Let me be clear. I am not criticizing anyone for not revealing themselves IRL...I am simply curious as to why they choose not to. Everyone has a reason, some serious, some funny...this is a forum after all.

You didn't do a thing wrong. Your question starting the thread just accidentally knocked the crust off of an old pile of poop and it started stinking again. Not your fault but your thread got a bit twisted. A few people have ground on the same old ax over and over thinking that everyone on the forum should give up all of their personal information or enough that anyone interested could find out the rest.

Back to your original question, I never hesitate to connect myself to Hu and Shootingarts at any of the events I attend. Kind of a giveaway when my first name on my name tag(usually my only name) says Hu and that is how I am listed on the sign in!

Hu

PS: For those that must know my full name send two Wheaties box tops plus $59.95 handling fee and SASE and I'll mail it to you.

Absolutely not! It has to be a General Mills cereal. Back in the day two box tops and a quarter or fifty cents, sometimes only a dime, would get you dozens of items including that nifty decoder ring. What with inflation and all I figured $59.95 was about right these days. :D :D :D

you've heard of Johnny Appleseed?

Well I'm the one that planted the willow trees up and down the creek and river banks!

Sorry, folks. Bottom line is that if everyone knows who you are, you're more careful about what you post. You might disagree with this, but to me it's fairly obvious; the people that refuse to post who they are want to stay anonymous for a reason; and that is so they don't have to own up to what they post and can "shoot from behind a wall".

I'm not saying that the rules have to be changed here, that's not my decision. I believe that we live in a country with free speech, and if azbilliards wants to run it this way, it's their prerogative. I don't have to agree with it or like it. I do believe that, by not requiring names it gives those that want to say what they want with no reprocusions a forum to diss anyone at any time, and then run away and hide behind their forum name and avatar.

And who are you, Hu? I'd like to know. I can't even challenge you to a pool game if I don't know your speed. Convenient for you, isn't it?

If you say so.
Personally, I think it depends on the forum.

This forum has it's share of BOTH anonymous, and exposed rude people.
Plus, who really cares what people say.
If they shoot from behind a wall, SHOOT BACK!

I like watching people's expressions when they ask what my AZ name is and I say "Corvette". Everyone that has asked says "really?" and smiles. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, lol. :D

Like the "DUDE" commercial, you could probably do a new commercial with how many ways to say "really?"

The problem here is that too many people shoot back, and it causes the hostilities that take place. I don't shoot back, I don't in real life and I don't on a forum like this when I don't know with whom I'm contending with. I like to resolve issues calmly, without the hostilities.

I think many of the poster who post their real names are sucked into fights and they feel that they have to uphold their integrity by "fighting back".

And again, this is only my opinion. It's AZbilliards right to have any forum they want. I'm not putting up the money nor am I supporting it in any way other than the few tournaments I have at Danny K's.

I do feel strongly about the state of billiards today and that players and participants need to come "up on to the table" and join society in being heard and being responsible for what you say and do.

The secretiveness of this forum only perpetuates what has been happening with this sport for almost a hundred years.

It seems like your making an incorrect assumption here.

Are you under the belief that the only people who make disrespectful posts are anonymous?

If I'm not mistaken, there was a TD thread pulled recently where people who were NOT anonymous, went ballistic and made complete asses out of themselves.

Anonymous or not, your going to have that stuff happen everywhere you go.

While it wouldn't eliminate nasty posts, you have to admit, if everyone's real name was known, there would be far less disrespectful posts.....

We will never know now will we.

I have seen the same exact arguments that erupt on the forum, erupt in real life.
In pool, you have Egomania. Same as in poker.
Posting ones name on the forum isn't going to change that. Whether it is an argument about pool, or politics, or someone getting stiffed, or a deal gone wrong. It's all the same.

Maybe it would be different having names posted in a checkers forum, or a knitting forum, or a camera forum, but not in a pool forum.
Egos are a part of the package and the forum reflects the pool community exactly how it is.
Volatile. You have the good and the bad from all walks of life, with a couple of whackjobs thrown in as well.

Actually people are WAY more disrespectful to my real name .... I'm not naming names but 1proscoe comes to mind as someone who always made fun of my real name :(

Identities

I think if u look up somebodys profile it says it all. Some are blank and some fill in the blanks. I for myself have nothing to keep from others. I have the same user name here and other sites and all the Arizona players know who I am. Other regions of the states or the world have no clue, cause I don't travel much. I think this holds true for most of us AZ's.
What makes this site great is the diversity of skill and knowledge that can be obtained from just asking a simple question in the privacy of your own home. A beginner can turn red in the face without anybody noticing. And.....hopefully learn a bit.
My user name is very similar to my email addy. I just thought it was catchy so I stuck with it.
My facorite part of this forum is reading the occasional stories of ol' with the hustles and strange stuff that happened in pool halls. Really looking forward to getting a copy of Jay's book.

Is that because your real name is Mike Hunt???

Just kidding...Couldn't resist.

I guess if I wanted to remain anonymous I shouldn't have put my picture in my avatar.

People stop me on the street and say "Hey, aren't you WORLDISON2?"

It's a real hassle.

I am Hu

Danny,

First off it is ridiculous that you assign one reason to everyone that wishes to remain anonymous and claim there is no other valid reason. You are the one with a problem. If you really want to know who I am send the two Wheaties box tops, self addressed stamped envelope, and $59.95 to me care of JoeyA or Buffalo Billiards and I'll send you my full name. If you aren't that curious, quit making demands. I have stated who I am over and over, over three thousand times on these forums alone. What you can't seem to grasp is Hu is my name. It is the name on my checking accounts, my driver's license, and that was on the signs in front of a handful of different businesses.

Just like someone meeting me in a pool hall, if you want to challenge me you pay your money and take your chances. I know your name and your alias. I still don't know your speed and what is more I don't care.

Hu

I was once trying to get into a special club at the airport while waiting on a flight and was having no luck when someone walked by and said," aren't you Bigtruck?'.......They let me right in!!!

AZ has it's privileges! (IMO)

Some just call me Yar Nesnah!
