Identifying your AZB handle in "real life".

That isn't necessary on the Steel Guitar Forum, nor would it be preferred by any of the members. Enough people know about who is posting to be aware of any falsehoods.

Other members would eventually find out who the imposters were anyway. The truth usually comes out in the end, by direct or indirect association.

one of the traditons in Law is-if u write it you have to write it all.
If some body is required to post with the real names then proof is required that the person`s claimed name is the real name.Prove the name with a birth certificate and the address by electric Bill.No ifsand buts.No exceptions.

PS:By the way anonymity does not bother me.I am not infavor of requiring the posters to give their real names.Demanding for real names more falls in the category of living under Gustapo/totalitarian regimens.

because of the anonymous mud-slinging.

I will ask the question again: how do you prove that the claimed name and address on the forum is the real name and address.do posters have to send their birth certificates and electric bill to the web master/moderator as a proof?

Gosh, I can't believe how behind the times you are! DNA samples of you and three close relatives will be required!

Well, it obviously won't work on this forum. I can deal with it this way, though.

It follows that with pool players and this forum people get a kick out of being secretive or hidden.

Even if full names were required and a few people tried to put up phony names I don't think it would be the rule, and they would eventually be found out.

It is what it is, though. So be it.

I always find it entertaining when people that freely expose themselves, want the people who don't, to follow suit.

All because they can't deal with their curiosity going unsatisfied. Sometimes to the point of being frustrated by it.

I would have to wonder, by people shedding their anonymity, who benefits from it, and why?

Oh well.

The rules of the forum are that no ID is necessary. People became involved with the forum KNOWING that.

You can't just change the rules of the game when you've already started to play the game with other rules in place.

I like that idea.By the way in yore earlier post you mentioned about Nuclear Energy dept.of usa or some thing like that.Nearly 24-25 years ago I was one of the prominent protesters to stop the govt putting Nuclear dump sites in perry and green counties of Mississippi.I was one of the 20 speakers permitted to speak in the public hearings with department of energy. In my speech I trashed everbody .I did not want a nuclear dump site in Mississippi but I told them that I do not have any problem if they put all those Nuclear dumps in the state of Texas.Later when I went to washington at the invitation of republican partiy national committe I had the opprtunity of interacting with the secretary of Dept.of Energy (reagan administration ).I challenged him to eat the chickens raised by the dump site 3 times a week to prove it is safe.He responded saying " hall them to washington and I will eat them".
Govt changed it`s mind and they did not put any dump site in mississippi.

Of course I can't change the rules of the game, but this is all about what some of us feel should be done. And I'm sure it isn't going to happen.

Why was this subject even brought up if people aren't free to offer opinions about it?

Not really sure how to take your "question". If this question is in poor taste like I think it is, then of course Im going to ignore it. If you are asking if I am a cat, LOL, then I will assume you are not very smart because we all know cats cant read or write let alone sit at a computer and use a mouse. (cats only eat mice):D
Even computer mice?

Poor taste...hhmmph!

Obviously, I don't have too much problem with people knowing I am who I am... my handle really does not offer secure anonymity.

But here's another question. Why do people not reveal their location? It seems that people who are interested in pool get out at least ocassionally to pool halls or bars, so they are not antisocial creatures. And it would seem to me that knowing where others with common interests would be desirable. It could be helpful to be able to ask questions when traveling, for example, if you knew which AZB members lived in your destination city.
That's a great idea. I live in Baltimore City, MD. I play at Big Daddy's Billiards in Pasadena, MD, and I occasionally donate to the Tiger Tour, run by Ceci Strain.

Are you asking me to reval my name??? ha ha i bet have the pool players i know over the last 40yr dont know my name, and i dam sure not going to tell you!!! but will give you a clue. my parents name me after a {outhouse] & [postuite trick] got any gusses????:grin-square: :grin-square: :grin-square:
I am not asking you to "reval" your name. I don't care what your real name is. I wanted to know the reason behind choosing not to reveal it in person, if that applies.

Carry on...

I believe, "To each his/her own personal decision" to stay anonymous or not.
I think its wrong when some members think everyone should have their real names on their avatars. I think some people probably have some very good reasons to protect their privacy. And frankly, its none of our business why.:)

What's wrong with asking the reasons why? I think ShootingArts did a nice job of explaining without revealing anything personal.

Oh well...

Good reasons include exwives, bails bondsman, the man, the parole officer, the 356 people they owe money to, a lot of reasons. Definitely not my case but many anonymous posters are "somebody" and enjoy just relaxing and being nobody on the web sometimes too. That should be their privilege. The anonymous pool pro's on here seem to enjoy the forum more than those who use their own name and it is widely known who they are.

Let me be clear. I am not criticizing anyone for not revealing themselves IRL...I am simply curious as to why they choose not to. Everyone has a reason, some serious, some funny...this is a forum after all.

If someone asked, I would tell them. Until then though, why bother revealing any information? My handle is genderless, raceless, my age unknown, forcing you to read what I type without filtering it unknowingly.

Why do you feel it should be done, for the forum to be more civilized?
That's can't be the only motive.
