I hate to break this to you, but Grumpy got banned

I like to remain anonymous

Yeah, but if someone recognizes you in a bad spot you have the advantage of being able to say "No, no... I'm Roger, he's Chris!!!"

Jon Johns????????????????LMAO

Yea, that makes a little more sense then my guess at his name- Sh*tter Blow!

I have met a few AZer's and when I tell then I am Rossaroni, they usully just walk away or call me a douchebag.

I think it is more like to each his own. I am IRL just like I am here. You can write or call me and ask whatever questions you may have. I have my likes and dislikes in people, but I realize that everyone has their own cross to bear, as they say. So, I just try to find the good in people and live and let live. Go figure...

So, when we are all at the open, do we wear name tags to tell who we are? If so, real name or online name??? :p

Dwight

LOL - ID should be required for some

If someone mentions AZB and then asks if you're a member, do you tell them your handle? What if they ask?

If you don't...why not?

I understand all about Internet "anonymity" but this is not an Adult-themed board, so I don't see any harm in doing so. For me...anything I say on here I will happily say to anyone in person.

Just curious as to the attitudes about this from some of the members who choose to remain "undercover".

I have only been on AZ for a very short time. After seeing some of the knock down drag out online fighting I thought to myself "are you kidding, we should be required to wear an AZ Avatar ID around any pool function so we would know who NOT to talk to."

I agree with the many others who feel it is nice to be able to run into each other and have have a laugh over some of the conversations on the forum.

As it turns out, a member of AZB has joined my team on one of my money leagues. He found me through local of word of mouth and when I found out he used to live in AZ I asked him if he knew of AZB - yup.:)

This is between you and I but my real name is Dirk Diggler. Don't tell anyone.

In all seriousness, I don't go out of my way but if I know I am among fellow AZer's I will gladly tell them who I am.

Koop - hasn't had his lights knocked out....yet :D

John Schmidt might still be posting also if members were more respectful with their posts. It's easy to not be respectful when you don't have to be, and there is no consequence for it.

Forums that require identification are more civil, period.

Lets face it, there are knuckleheads everywhere. Even on pool forums.
Just gotta weed out the bad stuff, because there is alot of good:)

Exactly!

I'm not devious enough to be stealth.

I have my REAL NAME as part of my signature. I personally think that everyone should have their real names listed no matter what their username is. It would solve the growth factor that occurs when some people sit down behind a key board.

Take care

It seems like your making an incorrect assumption here.

Are you under the belief that the only people who make disrespectful posts are anonymous?

If I'm not mistaken, there was a TD thread pulled recently where people who were NOT anonymous, went ballistic and made complete asses out of themselves.

Anonymous or not, your going to have that stuff happen everywhere you go.

Ah fooey!

A screen name by any other name is still a screen name. :D

Respectfully, I've been confronted by someone that has been extremely upset with opinions I have posted here. I have been accused of some pretty off the wall stuff. Bottom line is that if you have a problem with a point of view presented, then respond to it! This is an open forum! If I'm wrong then I'm wrong in front of a whole bunch of people. That's okay! Call me on it! :D

Yeah, I think it would happen some anyway. It just makes sense that if you have to stand behind what you post, because the person you may be speaking about might see you at the next pool event, or someone in the poolroom where you play might have noticed the post, you're going to be naturally more careful.

Hi Danny, I didn't realize you had a brother here in Austin. I just played with him this past week over at Clicks. Small world we live in. I hope to meet you someday. Next time I'm in the bay area, I will have to drive down and visit your place. Nice web site.

Really??

. . . . Forums that require identification are more civil, period.

I belong to a forum where everyone knows everyone's real name. In fact everyone on the forum has met over 75% of the other members multiple times face to face and spent days or weeks together and every member has been there five to twelve years. You need a secret decoder ring to even find the place. It is a very small forum with less than twenty members, less than a dozen active. Hard to imagine a place where every poster is better known. We have two owner/administrators who are there daily. We also have two or three pissing contests going on right now, a new one started tonight after one just ended a day or two ago. Different people involved too. Almost a certainty that every one of these people will meet the others again in the future and equally certain that everyone will be heavily armed when it happens. Every member of the forum is an expert marksman. Hard to imagine a place with more incentive to be civil yet we are a group of humans and as a group of humans we get into arguments sometimes.

The only thing your requirement would do is make this forum so small it would not be commercially viable. The administrators of this forum have more than adequate information to run any one of us to earth if they choose. I can't think of any valid reason that everybody that passes through these public forums should be entitled to my name or anyone else's for that matter.

Funny thing is that the leading proponents of these rules go by handles themselves, Danny K and similar. If you want to be consistent in your message why don't you use a consistent name everywhere instead of an alias? I am more consistent in my naming convention than you having used Hu most places for almost forty years and what is more the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has no problem with the fact that I signed tens of thousands of drawings simply as HU. That was and is my legal sign off. Danny K and a few more have a problem with me signing Hu. Guess what? It is their problem!

Edited to add: The private forum I belong to also circulates a contact list. Every one of us has every other member's address, phone numbers, and e-mails at the least. On the basis of percentages, AZB is far more civil!

Hu

Not knocked out...yet? Just wait buddy:angry: !

If you are civil and don't act like a dillweed everyday on here, then there should not be a problem telling people who you are. Most people act like gentlemen and gentlewomen on here, but there are those out there who are over the top. They come to AZB when they should be going to a therapist instead. Some of them I don't want to meet, but would like to sit back and watch how they act in real life. If some of them acted like they do on here, they must have sad lives:frown: . Everyone I know or have met from AZB have been friendly and act like they do on the forum.

funny you say that!....at the last super billiards expo I grabbed a U.S. Mail priority shipping tag and wrote " I'm AZB Gerry...Hi!" and slapped it on my chest. A bunch of people recognized it......got a good laugh from Jerry, and Mike H. when I ran into them. :)

I completely disagree. And my name is Melinda. :)

What I see is people respond the way they do on here b/c of who they are. They aren't hiding behind a screen name - their true colors come out anyway. Whether it's the ones that speak their minds off the cuff or the ones that carefully word their criticisms.

Chris, make it on down, love to meet you. I make it to Austin once a year as well.

Hu, there is also a forum named the Steel Guitar Forum, in which about 75% of all steel players are on. They are required to reveal all info about themselves, names, addresses, etc.

It is an extremely civil forum, and if a person is going to step out of line, he will have to face the people he or she dissed at the next steel guitar show. There are a few scraps on the forum, but usually end with apologies and resolution.

Having said that, yeah this forum would probably become a little smaller, but az might get back a lot of pros that fear to tread water here, because of the anonymous mud-slinging.

On the steel guitar forum many top players post, as well as many Hall of Famers, and they are involved because they enjoy the honest exchange of ideas, not because they're trying to further their career, like happens here, when the pros do post.

I will ask the question again: how do you prove that the claimed name and address on the forum is the real name and address.do posters have to send their birth certificates and electric bill to the web master/moderator as a proof?
