If a ball goes in and comes back out is it a legal shot?

I have had balls that obviously went in that either hit the back of the pocket and came back out or rolled around the back of the pocket and then back out.

The last one was actually kind of funny. It was a medium pace shot with lots of side shot into the side pocket. I had seen it pass the edge of the slate and moved to shoot the next ball. My buddy was roaring laughing. The spin transferred to the OB caused it to roll around the back of the pocket and right back out to the middle of the table.

I have always just let the other player shoot after this. My question is - what is the official rule for this?

Does not count ball stays where it rest. Same as going into a pocket filled with
Balls and coming out

As they said, it only counts if it stays down. There was an interesting/crazy situation relevant to this from a pro event that was on youtube a few years back (no idea if it is still there). Efren shot at what I think was the eight ball and made it in the corner pocket but it came back out of the pocket and back onto the table. It was a pretty easy shot too as I recall. Then the opponent Tony Crosby I believe it was was left with a similar shot on the same ball in the same pocket. He made it and it came right back out on him too. Efren then came back to the table and made the same ball into the same pocket but this time it actually stayed down after it was pocketed. Craziness and I bet those players were not happy about that table.

Very similar to what I am talking about but it is not the same one I am referring to. I think it was Efren and Tony Crosby, and it happened to both of them back to back. I could have the order they shot in wrong, or some other minor details but I am just about certain it happened to both players back to back on the same ball. I hope somebody knows where to find it, I would like to see it again.

Do you have the time when it occurred? Unless I missed it when skimming through it isn't in that match either, although both players sure dogged a lot of easy shots back and forth in that one. Maybe I am confusing this match with the one I was thinking of. I still swear there was one where the ball came out of the pocket back to back for both players. Sure hope somebody remembers it so I don't have to believe I've gone senile or crazy. lol

I have seen a ball pocketed in one side pocket on a Valley table, and come back out on the opposite side.

I have also seen a kitten poke it's head out of pockets at my local hangout.

I thought it was Vilmos Foldes, that Efren was playing against, when the ball wouldn't stay down. At least, I remember it as being someone who wasn't American.

Me too!

I had the same experience on a valley bar table many years ago. Other than the three people who saw it happen, no one I've told the story to believes me!

Some valleys have a screw head in the center at the bottom of the pocket that spit the ball back out. Saw one spit a ball out and only that pocket had a screw head on that table.

I know exactly what you are talking about, but don't know which video it is either.

Sir, that player is a dumbass and deserves what he's got. Any slow roll would've done it. No need to use force at all.

There's a silly rule in tournament play that says in order to win a game of 9 ball, you have to pocket the 9 ball.

So if I shoot a stop shot and the object ball hits the back of the pocket and comes out without hitting a rail. Is it ball in hand?

No. Any part of contact with a pocket counts as a rail when determining if a shot is legal.
