Thanks cuejoey, but it would need to be someone with a track record producing shows to get them to look into it I'm sure, or at least someone in the TV industry. Johnnyt

Great ideas but why ban comedians? Some of them have a significant place in this game.

It sounds like a show I could watch. Good idea but I think you are waking a sleeping giant. Smorgy is going to be mad!

That's why i said ESPN because pool is on it..i'm not good with computers..but there has to be places/web sites you could contact like the various reality show people..just a thought..because YOUR idea IS a good one..

i was thinking of that too..BUT some comedians may take it too far goofing around ..i think maybe Johnnyt had that in mind..

Yes that is what I meant. Most of these shows get comedians that are looking for exposer on TV. Some are washed up, some stink and always have, but they make sure they get their camera time...to hell with the show and everybody else. Johnnyt

Anyway, nice premise. I think with today's audience, you could have one pro per personality and allow America to vote on the team to remain each week. Recording some of the pro's lessons and the progression of a celebrity's game might even garner more public interest in pool.

Yes this is only a small outline of the ways you can go with this. And yes I would be looking to grab the mainstream public one night a week. If that could be done and they get to see a dozen or more top players in a season, then maybe you could get them to watch real pool.

I don't know much about TV but I know a little about the book business. Agents and publishers want mainstream stuff. They don't want to gamble on something new (unless it has a new twist to it). If it's not mainstream it better be happening now, or you better be famous, or an an author with a solid track record of selling a lot of books and have a big following on fans. Johnnyt

Does anyone on here know a way to get in touch with someone from ESPN or another network to submit an outline for new programs or does the whole show have to be spelled out for them(Synopsis, Query, Outline(not just an outline?) Johnnyt

in my opinion pool and TV just dosent mix, sure we as pool players know what we are watching and its great, but 99.99556632% of people cant understand shape in its simplest form-getting shape from the first ball made to the 2nd let alone running a rack. Every pool video commentary seems to have the same theme....explaining how and why and what the next shot is gonna be in a way that is dumbed down for non-players which is perfectably understandable but it gets old for me as a player, from time to time there is a shot that can be played 2 or 3 ways and that makes for cool commentating. I'm not knocking the guys out there commentating it a tough sport/game t and thats commentate why it dosent translate to TV good, people just dont get it,

If there was a gambling element involved it would help, but that gets old, look at poker-it works great on TV and the gambling part of it is a natural but the stakes are getting bigger and bigger to hold the audience, its running out of steam, sweating $$$ on TV is about done IMO and there is no chance that pool could have the big $$$ that poker does and the big $$$ isnt gonna carry the day much longer, remember 4 years ago $1,000,000 on TV poker was huge now its the blinds....well almost, get my point? they are selling the sweat not the game.

Back to pool, kinda imagine lawn bowling or curling they are games that take alot of skill and stragity etc but if your not into it then they get boaring quick, I feel pool is the same way, just because we like it and know it, it is good for us to watch but who here is gonna sweat "Curling for millions", the biggest TV show from Canada in years? probably a few people but if your not into it it dosent work,

Game shows work because they make a game that large audiences understand like the Price is Right, hot girls and who guesses the best wins-stupid content anyone can understand, it takes years to learn pool how can you hold audiences who cant make a ball?


Believe me I wish it wasnt the case, in the UK snooker is popular people understand it and it does good on TV, how ever it it part of their culture, pool dosent work that way here, except barbox stuff that might work, 8 ball barbox is the only hope but that still would be a tought one,

Well I can't diagree with any of that Fatboy but I thought in the begining they would tune in to see how good the stars were...then maybe learn the game a little and some of the pros names. Jeanette Lee comes to mind for the first show and the other, a male pro that can talk some trash. Johnnyt
