I try to go to a couple legs of the MotoGP every year- I hadda go with that.

You go to a couple of MotoGP races a year -- you lucky man. I can only do one each year, (but haven't missed a world/gp race at Laguna Seca since 1995).

Honor

Since you included honor in the question I don't think there could be any other choice but Golf. It is the only sport where players call penalties on themselves. The honor system is used everytime anyone plays. Most people who have been exposed to the rules understand this and abide by it.

Golf does have it's share of losers but the percentage is much smaller than other sports. It all goes back to how someone is raised and what type of person that they are

Plenty of players call fouls on themselves in pool too. There was a whole thread on that subject and the clear majority said they would self-call fouls.

In pro golf, the scrutiny of the players is so intense there are only rare opportunities to be in a position to self-call fouls. It certainly has happened to the great credit of those who did it but in situations where only the player knows he's fouled, there is no way to know how many have self-called the fouls and how many have not.

In amateur golf, little nudges here and there, far out of sight of anyone in the foursome is rampant. Ask any caddy.

Jim

The honor of trusting your life in a sport...

Yes, calling your own penalties while putting around on a ball at the grassy country side seems honorable to many on this forum. But to me, racing a motobike at 200 mph with only inches to spare to your fellow races is nothing short of respect and trust -- one little mistake and you might take out your fellow racer. Basically, you are trusted with your opponents life in your hands:

Jude, I only know you by reputation...which is EXCELLENT and you are consistently one of the most informative posters on this forum.

I think the only time you and I "locked horns" was on the issue of how long it takes to get to Hall of Fame in a subway...and whether Amsterdam is downtown from mid-town. Mostly just a good joust.

I did not know that lodini was a woman (so many guys have avatars of women in various stages of dress and undress) Had I known that and certainly had I known she is a friend of yours I would have been more "gentle." As you know, there are few on this forum who have taken more stands in favor of women than I...and I've taken MAJOR heat for that.

But being "gender-neutral" is an admirable thing, I think, and she posted the following in response to my post that you quoted.

Geez... a fun question was thrown out, and we were all having fun answering and stepping into a fantasy world for just a second of our day. I guess we could look at things your way, but at least for me, I was just trying to enjoy myself for a minute.

(Plus, maybe the OP can clarify, but I dont think that's the type of "honor" he was referring to... I think it was more like "for the glory of it")

But either way, I hope someone hugs you today.

I was just expressing an opinion and used very real and very correct examples to support my point. CLEARLY, I did not disrespect pool or any poster here IN THE SLIGHTEST and yet she dumped on me for ruining her enjoyment of the thread.

MOST importantly, as you correctly pointed out...the very sharp nature of my post was NOT directed at her but at another poster who deserved what he got...and more.

I only asked THAT poster if lodini needed someone to fight fights for him/her (now I know it's "her).

Having said all that, while I think her post to me was WAY out of line, I certainly apologize to her if she took any personal offense at comments I directed to another poster....and I admire you for sticking up for a friend.

Regards,
Jim

Thank you! That's really appreciated!

You forgot one of the hardest sports out there: hockey!

Btw, I went with golf, although it was a tough call between that and tennis. I love both, but golf is definitely the hardest of the two.

I haven't been to Laguna Seca in nearly 10 years- it's a fun scene. I generally go to Malaysia (easy trip from here, though not the greatest venue) and Shanghai (hope to make Phillip Island in '09 or '10).

Are you going to Indianapolis for the inaugural MotoGP? There's a very slim chance I'll make it, but it's a possibility- it's a big trip from Thailand, but I've got dozens of friends who will be there.;)
