if Pool is a sport, then define "sport'

Pool is a game and a sport, just like the other game/sports. It just does not require much in terms of cardio and speed of the whole body (it does require a speedy stroke sometimes), but fine motor coordination, physical skill, mental toughness... it does. And it is all based around an accurate throwing motion that requires the precise placement and balance of the body. Some people who can't do it call it only a game...

perhaps, by defining the difference between a game and a sport would be a good start. ie all sports are not games and all games are not sports.

Mika had to be in great shape to win the US Open comin' from the losers bracket a few yrs back. Don't know if anyone else ever did it.

If you think pool is a sport you're only fooling yourself.

If you don't run and jump, it's not a sport. Sorry pool. Sorry golf. Sorry beer pong. Sorry horseshoes.

You do "run" balls and "jump" the cue ball or object balls over obstacles. LOL

Very well put Max, you stud.

Although it might not be a sport in the traditional sense of the word.

There are certain instances where your physical fitness comes into play.

If anyone disagrees with that, i challenge them to play in and place in the top 4 of a weekend scratch one day regional event, where you get up at 7 or 8am, start play at noon, and go till 3am as is often the case if you make it to the final match.

You try to play and maintain your best game throughout the course of a 12-15 hour pool day and see how you like it.

Most people gasp out 4-6 hours into the session, few maintain stroke after 8-12 hours. But a real pool player, on his second day, you can't knock him over with a brick.

"FLIP IT!"

"No".....what am I up 1500? here take 900$....come on please"

I think an important part of something being a "sport" is having a measurable/verifiable winner of a contest between individuals or teams.

So pool is in and 'sports' like figure skating or gymnastics or synchronized swimming are out...any of those things where you need a judge to tell you who won..BS!

Everthing is a game(life is a game) the sports are the people that play the games, example" The Olympic Games"

If you say so.

Why would you need something after the first day? Doesn't make any sense. Guys play 3 days in majors events just on pure excitement. But feel free to believe you need to snort something to play pool for extended periods.

It takes physical and mental endurance to inhale 50,000 pounds of secondhand cigarette smoke in every eight hour session. How many other sports require that? Only pool. That's part of the reason why pool halls barely survive.

Here is a test. Spend 3 hours at the table continously running balls. Thats put all 15 at there, run all, repeat. For three hours. Do not take breaks, well only bathroom breaks and seldom, if ever sit down.

Then tell me how you feel and how your body feels afterwards. I bet the ones think pool is not a sport can't pass the test.

And yes, the above is a form of endurance training for pool.
