If you could afford any cue makers cue who's cue would you buy for your everyday cue

A lot of great cue makers were already mentioned and deserve the respect.

I am a bit surprised that John Showman was only mentioned once and not until page 5. I am just as surprised that Murray Tucker has not been mentioned.

I play with Szamboti, Schick, and Tucker. All three see quite a bit of playing time. The cue I want that I don't already own is Showman.

I sold the Szamboti and the Tucker (offers that I couldn't refuse) and finally bought a Showman. It plays as great as I hoped. Now the player I want that I haven't already owned is a Searing. I have had the chance to hit a few balls with two of his cues and they are definitely special.

I agree Greg. I recently acquired a John Showman cue and it is stellar in every way. My everyday player is a Murray Tucker conversion from a Schmelke blank. I would not trade that cue for anything. It is my playing cue, break cue and jump cue. My other cues are a Dennis Searing Hoppe and another Murray Tucker Hoppe cue.


If I could order a cue from any one maker on the planet it would be Dennis Searing. His work is at the top of the food chain, in my opinion. His attention to detail, fit & finish and playability are exceptional. He cares about making the finest cue possible. And I know when it is finished it will exceed all of my expectations. He is a gentleman to talk to and his customer service is fantastic.

Speaking strictly regarding a 'player', my choice is easy....Steve Lomax, whom I just happen to have one on order with. He lives in my area, is accessible easily by email and phone both, and makes great, well balanced playing cues on a very reasonable timetable.
 
personally, i wouldnt feel comfortable walking into a pool hall everyday with a high dollar cue.

having said that, i would probably get a local custom cue from a reputable cue maker, try out some cues, and see what i like.

but i also think the fun of pool is collecting inventory, so get what you like and play with what makes you happy.

Thanks for the 2 year bump, 1st time seeing this thread.

Dennis Searing is my choice. I'm on the list, but it could
be a while. I have a Searing conversion that plays fantastic,
so it'll have to do for now. My main player right now is a
South West, so don't feel too sorry for me...lol.
 
I would buy a Keith Hansen. The current cue showcased at keithkues.com is called Cash Money and has 216 points.
 
I'm a little lucky in that Kenny Murrell and Rob Harris are both local cuemakers here. Both are great but would go with a Kenny Murrell if I were out to spend the money. He's not really taking orders right now since he has about a 2 year back-log, but his cues are as nice as cues get.
 
I play with a Pechauer JP19-L and frankly I couldn't imagine buying an expensive cue from any other company. I was lucky - someone owed me a bunch of money from some disc golf shenanigans and didn't play pool anymore. So I kinda fell into the stick. But damn do I ever love how it hits, great stick. Wonderful true feel.

And then when I had to deal with the company they were nothing but awesome in terms of customer service. I couldn't have asked for better. My shaft broke when dropped from a height of about 5 inches and struck the edge of a table one night. It snapped off about three inches above the ferrule. I have a sneaking personal suspicion that it was because a couple of days earlier I had left it in my car while I went in to work, and temperatures surprised me by dropping sharply mid-day. The people with Pechauer were superawesome about the whole thing, and gave me a replacement shaft for half cost when I explained how it had broken. I didn't mention my "suspicion" regarding the possible reason for the wood being brittle, and still have no idea if that one day in my car contributed. But when I explained how it had broken... well, c'mon how often does a stick break when dropped from less than half of a foot? It just hit the wrong spot.

Is it great business to send out shafts at half cost? Not immediately. But this fall I plan on purchasing a 700-800 dollar stick and guess who I'll be going back to. Nothing but the best recommendation I can give for the quality of the cue and their customer service. The replacement shaft has hit like a dream, aside from my newbie ass over-shaping the tip trying to learn how to do it and making it miserable for English. But that's replaceable relatively cheap.
 
I would want a Jerry Rauenzahn 4 point double re-cut ebony and birds eye bumperless with a Hopped ring and three shafts.... Well there you go.... Poetry.

the only cue i ever loved with a single hit i took was a scruggs, but if i had the money i would have many cues from different makers, by looks alone theres PFD, BlackBoar, Jacoby, they can make some seriously artistic cues, for playability, scruggs, tascarella, searing, mottey. the list goes on, I had a RAT JB with an OB pro that shot lights out, $600+ with the shaft, and since then, since I was using a break cue to play with, the magic of custom cues kinda lost its shine a little for me. one of the best pool players I ever watched play, dont know his name or where he was from, only used house cues. my one requirement would have to be wrapless.

A Bill Schick sneaky still rates as the best hitting cute I have ever hit with. Tascarella and my Cameron distant seconds. Haven't hit with a Searing yet, so reserving judgment.

I think this is a great thread because it's really about finding out what different people have tried and like throughout the country. There are so many good cuemakers out there these days, and many of them don't make a lot per year, so they may only be know locally. I have been playing pool for about 20 years, but have only started reading the AZ forum a few weeks ago and just joined. I still constantly see new (to me) names on here and love to read people's opinions on cues and the cuemakers themselves. The right answer to the original question is definitely going to be different for different people. As we all know, how cues hit, and to some degree, how they play can be very subjective.

The one thing that amazes me here is, unless I missed it, no one said George Balabushka.
