If you could be really good at one game?play one game well?

Snooker for the $$$$
One pocket to hear new excuses for losing from Frost :)
Favorite is still 9 ball

Probably one pocket. I'm from Pennsylvania which still a big one pocket state. Not because one pocket is my favorite game but because those older guys bet the most

Straight pool because it's synonymous with "Mosconi"! I'm still trying to break 100, got a couple of 80's but haven't reached the triple digits!

In this order, straight pool, one pocket, 15ball rotation! Although I practice a lot of 10-ball, it's my least favorite! Probably why I'm not as good as I should be at it!

When I'm playing straights, I can feel how into it I am. Playing 9-10 ball, just kinda going through the motions! Maybe if they made it push out after the break I would be into it more.

What game would you like to be your best game? I would like to be really good at 9 Ball. I shoot ok for Alaska and especially for my little town, but I'm not "really good". Alaska for the most part is an 8 or 9 Ball state. I like the speed of 9 Ball and the moving the cue ball and safety aspect of it.

I am primarily a rotation game player and probably always will be, so I'd have to say 15-ball rotation. I love playing 9-ball, but the simple fact is that it doesn't challenge us the way we need to be challenged in order to reach the highest level. It is possible to run 9-ball racks without ever really being "in line", so you need to mix in other games that force you to strive for a higher level of cueball precision.

Straight pool will teach you to pocket balls and move your cueball precisely. One-pocket does that, but also places a premium on banking and safety play. Neither of these games puts the same premium on breaking and kicking that rotation games do, but I think you should incorporate both into your routine to help you reach the highest level of 9-ball play.

Best of luck,
Aaron

In order

In order:

One Pocket
Straight Pool
3 cushion
Banks
10ball
8ball
9ball
Snooker

I wish more rooms had more quiet atmospheres for the One Pocket Guys and have the snooker and 3 cushion table back there as well.

Straight Pool would certainly have to be the most powerful game in making your whole pool game better. Rotation games come much easier to a straight pooler. Just ask the likes of Sigel, Varner, Crane, Lassiter, Mizerak, etc...

One pocket can teach one many things on strategy etc..., but it want teach you how to be an excellent aggressive ball pocketer, near as much as Straight pool. And personally, I just get to bored with one pocket.

Straight.......the measure of greatness and I am far from being.....never connected more than 3 racks consecutive.........I drean of running 6-7 racks........if it's only one game, then mine is straight pool.

That's a really tough question. I know that a lot of guys on here think that one pocket is the be all and end all of pool games but I like them all. I usually find that if a player is really good at one game he is respectable in all games. The best one pocket player I know of plays one hell of a 14.1, 9ball, and 8ball game.

OnePocket....Not saying it's the best just saying it's my favorite and think I might play that better than the other games. My all time favorite was 1ball (in the corner) back in the 60's. Played with Doc Frye for hours when he came into the Cue on Cottman St.

8-ball.

As an amateur it offers more opportunity to compete in leagues and tournaments and TBH I think in the next 20 years we are going to see it become far more common in pro pool as well (especially with the slow growth of Chinese 8-ball).

Being great at a niche game is largely pointless. What did being awesome at 14.1 do for Schmidt other than offer some bragging rights? What does being a 1-pocket specialist do for Frost other than make him a target for a all around monster like Alex to take 20k off of and get his action ducked by everyone else in the world?

At least if you excel at a game that is actually played and that there are ample opportunities to compete in you can actually reap some rewards from it.
