if most of the hit it due to shaft tip ferrule etc if you use an after market low deflection shaft except for esthetics does it matter whether a gus or walmart below the joint is involved???
dont shoot the messenger just asking for my education:)

If the butt is solid, doesnt make a discernible difference. A butt that rattles will rattle no matter the shaft.

I'm using 314-2 for 4 years at the beginning and try others LD shafts as well, but the feedback also produced by butt. I may don't care about who's making that butt as long as the butt feels solid.

The way the butt of the cue is built adds to any feedback you get when playing with the cue, plus you must like the balance point.
IE: forward weighted or butt heavy.

There are other aspects to the butt of the cue that need to be built well other than just to serve as a piece of wood to hold on to. Sturdy joint, good balance, good wrap...

What he said.....the butt does make a difference in how the cue plays. In terms of balance, quality of build, and feedback.

thanks for the replies .
i was curious what others would say
from personal experience it DOES make a difference
as mentioned above feel ,balance, feedback all change with different butts

no question the different shaft changes the feel, balance ,and feedback from the way the cuemaker intended ( with his shafts)
that is another topic altogether

Such and obvious answer to the question!!!!!!

First the LD shaft - must be aimed differently!! Yes the butt matter s!! Joint balance - A joint - lenght and on and on. If you spend like 500. with a Good cuemaker- You always want to match the LD shafts to the cue!! Partials are the best in my mind!! mark
