If you was to start playing pool for this first time what you focus on first...

First thing to learn

Stance, Stroke, Bridge, Aim, then pocket, thats the order I taught.
If you cant stand at the table correctly you cant do the other things correctly. Stroke can be achieved by using a bottle as well as aim. pocketing balls comes with time.

Start donating your money to some broke hustlers and the pool community by gambling!

It will be very appreciated.

HITTING THE CUE BALL!!!

I swear that it moved right on my back stroke....:-)

Fundamentals

Creating a repeatable ramrod straight stroke

Then potting, then position

and i agree about getting an instructor right from the start

Thanks for the tips an opinions one unusual ability of mine is at times in flashes I have the ability to Ummm pocket balls even tough shots..unfortunately this seems to come an go...i need to be more consistent....Yesterday i was playing a fellow that i knew i could beat no problem i had three chances on three fairly easy shots an miss them..then on a tough shot on the 8 i scratched i told the guy i deserved to lose i had it 3 times an missed....

Consistency comes from doing the same things the same way every time.
In pool school we help you build routines and check lists to make sure that happens.
That, along with a consistent, repeatable stroke, will get you well on your way to a more consistent game.

If I knew then what I know now I would have put down the pool cue and picked up the golf clubs. Much more money to be made.

This may sound dumb, but the first thing I tell newbies to do is make sure to chalk before you do anything else.

How to rack. You will be doing that a lot in the beginning.:D
Seriously, how to step into a proper stance and how to hold the cue comes first when learning to play.
