If you were one of the Mosconi coaches... (Day 4)

Which lineup would you put out for Day 4. It's all singles right?

SVB vs. Daz is up first, with Europe leading 9-5. So it could either be 9-6 or 10-5 by the time your day 4 lineup gets to play.

If you were coaching the Americans or the Euros, which playing order would you choose to give your team the best chance to win?

Shane

I definitely would try to get as close as possible to get some momentum!
So after Shane's match from yesterday's draw I would put him up again first - hoping he wins two in a row being warmed up!

If he doesn't, it will be too late already!
If he does, maybe the others get pumped up...

Got to be Shane for USA, if he wins, and you could argue he would be slight favourite in both, then its 9-7 and the pressure is on the euros. I would then play hall then Bergman.

The euros have 2 ways to attack it, they could predict USA going for shane and throw Gray or Nikos against him as a free roll and keep Appleton and neils for the weaker euros where they are strong favourite.

I'm not convinced that playing back to back matches is the best idea especially if the first match is a nail biter. It can be somewhat emotionally draining (for me anyway) and I'd appreciate a chance to spin down before going back up so that I can give my complete concentration to the next match.

After SVB my lineup with be Hall, Schmidt, Deuel, SVB, Bergman. Then SVB if it comes down to the final match.

I don't think it matters. All but one of the decisions have been made and the last one will only come into play if the US reaches match 21.

After the "Wednesday" Shane vs Darren Match 15, each of our five will have to play singles once in the Thursday matches. We need five of the six matches to get to Match 21, the captain's pick match.

Whether Johan decides to go for the early knockout by putting Niels and Darren up in Matches 16 and 17 or keeps them in reserve and puts them in Matches 19 and 20 can only be guessed at, but it is ultimately trivial. Darren will play twice today and Niels will play once in the first six matches. If Team USA can win two of those, then a sweep of Nikos, Gray and Boyes will be needed to reach Match 21.

Everybody has to play well today, and the coaching decisions are largely behind us. Of course, if I were Coach Wilson, I might recommend to Corey, Bergman, Shane , and Schmidt that they eat the exact breakfast as Justin Hall.

I would play SVB, Hall, SVB, Schmidt, Bergman, Deuel

If it somehow manages to get hill/hill, then I honestly think it's a toss up between Hall and SVB. SVB is the obvious on paper choice, but Hall has played well. I wouldn't fault Mark Wilson for either pick.

you got me on this one!

SVB
-------------------
Hall
Bergman
Svb
Schmidt
Deuel

Here is my reason why i like this order!!!

Best match played by Team Usa was Hall/bergman grouped together. IMO
Let them get some more seasoning and air time they are benefiting the most from the experience! I would let them soak up as much as possible.

They hold down the fort then you have SVB to keep us going. Then Schmidt followed by our weakest performer so far Deuel. IMO

This is exactly what I would do also!

I think that the best individual play was Schmidt vs Gray, John had a number of break and runs so I would put him in after SVB

They just releases the line up! I tried to put the picture in here but it didn't work. The lineup is:
SVB vs daz
SVB vs nikos
HALL vs Niels
BERGMAN vs daz
DEUEL vs Boyes
SCHMIDT vs Gray

I would have done it the exact same way. You need wins and you need hem quick so you have to play your best players first. Svb hasn't played the best but he is the best player. And hall has been the USA MVP! It's not over, they can make the comeback! USA!!

Based on this above

My line up would look like this
Svb vs daz
-----------------
Hall vs Nikos
Bergman vs Neils
Svb vs daz
Schmidt vs Boyes
Deuel vs gray

The basis for both teams is that you don't want to lose with your best player(s) on the bench, not getting a chance to play.

This is why SVB is playing back to back to start off the day.

In the case of Hall or SVB playing the second match today, it doesn't matter that Hall has played better the past 3 days. SVB is the far better player (no offense to Justin) and he would be playing the max amount of games for your team. You win or lose with SVB.

This is why Appleton and Neils are playing early on in the match lineup as well.

Both Captains know this.

If it goes Hill - Hill (10-10), it is Captains pick - meaning any of your five players can play. Obviously for the USA it would be SVB. For Europe, most likely Appleton but I could see them picking Neils.
