If you were up at the BCA 8 Ball Campionships

Good

How do you rate this year events, vendors, or just the Lost Wadges (Las Vegas) Expierence in 2009?

All in all it was a great experience.

Tournament was run very well, tables were good, lots of competition.

If I have any gripes with anything, it's with the Riviera Hotel.

From talking to various staff it seems the hotel has layed off over 550 personnel.

I thought the service at Kady's was terrible. Lot's of tables closed because there's not enough staff present to wait and bus tables. On various occasions there were long lines of people waiting to eat and the place was only half full.

The Buffet upstairs was terrible. I got there 30 minutes after it opened and the food tasted old and dry. The piece of cake I had tasted (and felt) as if it had been out overnight.

Great tournament but the hotel left a lot to be desired.

The Rat Pack is turning in their graves at the quality and service in Sin City

the event was pretty good this year and the competition was fierce. Individulaly I played pretty good, won around 75% of my games. As a team... not so good. One thing that I noticed more this year than all the years I've attended was the grade AAA barking. between the TAR BAR and the challenge table area the woofing was in full force. We even had Scooter to get the action going. I have never seen so much at the BCA event. It was kinda like the Derby (at times) lot's of fun , can't wait to do it all again next year. BTW casino gambling SUCKS!

P.S. I vow to NEVER EVER stay at Circus Circus again. My friend booked the room and we were all the way back at Manor A. I swear it was so far away it had a different ZIP code....

Best BCA nats yet. Woofing was top grade & money was always flowing. Lots of hustling, too. It was great. As mentioned, the Riv sucks. Hopefully it gets moved soon to a better venue. The tournament will do nothing but grow if it continues to be this exciting. Bartrum did a great job knocking off champions. I'm gonna start calling him the "giant killer". The guy's got unending heart. TAR did a wonderful job arranging games & keeping track of the stakes. Justin & Chad work their asses off for very little or no compensation. They just love pool & are doing what they know how to do in hopes of contributing to the game. Vegas this year was the best I have seen, ever.

Vendors were basically the same as always, in the same locations, probably sitting in the same chairs.

Great Time

I had an awesome time hanging out and watching and playing!!!

 Good Times

I know I had to stay at Circus Circus 2 days before transferring over to the Riv one year, and took a taxi (had bags), and it was $6.50 to go across the street...... LOL

I got to Vegas a day before my team, so I stayed at Circus Circus the first day. The cab driver must not have noticed my 3 bags weighing 200lbs. that were in his trunk. He dropped me off in front of Circus Circus and not anywhere near the hotel. He also must have taken me on a site seeing tour that I didn't know about, because it cost me over $30 from the airport to Circus Circus. On the way back it cost $15!
Besides that, I had fun and we played well-pool, not blackjack. My team took third in open teams, so that got me about even for my trip.

So you were on Max's team? He used to play out of the Indiana area. My team has played him in some other events...super strong player. How does he rank on your team?

Yea, we threw Max on our team because we felt bad for him and thought he showed some potential.:grin-square:jk! I think our whole team plays right around the same speed-just depends on the day. Were you in Vegas this year? I hung out with a few of Max's friend's from Indiana.

Yeah...I was there. We were from the Bloomington, IN area. We played Max's IN team 2 years ago at the state in Ft Wayne, IN. It was hill-hill in a match between Max and myself and he ended up getting me. This year in Vegas I played on the team "Bloomington BCA"...we finished 49th - 64th.

If you go again next year recommend grabbing one of the shuttles from the airport. I went with CLS and paid a flat fee of $7 each way. If staying at the Riv it drops you off and picks you up at the south entrance - which is right by Hotel Registration.

The tournament was top notch again. I really enjoy going out for the BCA. Can't say much about the service and the riv because I only slept there, I refuse to eat or gamble there. Acutally I played a little poker there when there was no time to go the Wynn. Went to the peppermill to eat and other casinos to spend money. Too many years of horrid service to spend any money at the Riv other than for the room.

The shuttle is the way to go if you are by yourself but 2 or more I'd rather take a cab, my buddy took a cab and it was $30 too, I think there is an airport fee. The shuttle stops at the Riv dead last and takes an hour and half to get there after leaving the airport.

Was at the riv for the nats heard rumors from a few local people I know that the Riv missed a $4 mil. interest payment for the third time and is likely closing. Don't know this for a fact just passing it along. Btw tournament was great enjoyed seeing everyone special thanks to Dr. Cue as always you were great to all of us and I had fun to bad i couldn't finally win one guess i'll settle for second in the artistic challenge #1

BCAPL Nationals

I wish I had a dollar for everytime the Riviera was supposed to close. Obviously Vegas is having hard times - but I have faith in the future.

I think the economy will improve - and I think the Riviera will be there for several more years.

It is not very often that a working casino actually closes. Rumors are not good for anyone.

BCA tournament - Today, 11:35 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I saw the BCA event was great....great competition, run well, and enough vendors to find whatever you needed. The RIV on the other hand , I thought sucked, most of the staff seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but where they were to down right rude! There was never enough staff on duty and the food was beyond description in a negative way! Probably wouldn't hurt to clean the damn place either. With the economy the way it is, having a tournament at all is hard enough....but the host facility needs to be better...if I ever go back I'll put into my budget for taxi service and stay at a casino that at least acts like they want me there. Mark and company work hard to put on the event and I hope they will either find another venue in Vegas or move to another city if thats what's needed. Just my thoughts.

There are drawbacks to staying elsewhere. I wanted a decent room so I put up in the towers at the Luxor. Until I figured out the best route it was a pain in the ass getting to the Riv. Almost 45 minutes with the traffic and construction to go straight down the strip from the Luxor to the Riviera. Best case still took 15-20 minutes, especially when you take into consideration the time it takes to get from your room to your car. So it's kind of a matter of choosing your poison.

I think a lot of people stayed at Circus Circus or the Sahara to save money, and at least they are close to the Riviera. If the tournament is moved to a nicer hotel the rooms there will cost even more and then even more people will have to stay remotely. At some of the other hotels there are not as many cheap rooms within walking distance like at the Riviera. Not defending the Riv because if it was nicer I would have stayed there and I would prefer to stay at the venue. Also to be considered is that this year due to the economic slump the whole town is cheaper. That might not be the case in future years. I just went for the 10Ball pro event and I was there 4 days. It can get expensive for guys fully involved in all the BCA events who are there for over a week.
