I will be in Worthing from July 7-10 and London on July 11-12.

I won't be taking any cues, but I'd like to find a place where I could maybe knock around a few balls of some sort.

Any suggestions?

And if anyone has some suggestions for sights to see that might be a little off the beaten path send me a PM so as not to anger the NPR Gestapo.

Never been there, but according to Google Trends, they have the top 9 cities that search for billiards. I would say there is a lot of interest in the game there. Here is the list:

don't get your hopes up too high regarding playing pool over here - it's still very much a minority sport. i've just done a search on rileysltd.com, riley's bars are the big chain that have pool halls all over the country. however there doesn't seem to be one close by I don't think. there may be an individual pool hall around there however but it's not too likely.

however i'm certain there will be a few snooker clubs nearby to play a bit of snooker should that interest you, and there's a chance there may be an american table in one of them.

I will be in Brighton in late Aug for a few weeks... so I am sure I will find a place or two.

If I were traveling across the pond, I would want to play snooker. Its part of the English culture to which I would want to experience.

I've always hated going on vaction with people and when we go to eat they will suggest a chain restaurant. Why travel 1000 miles and go to some place that is in your neighborhood? Never made since to me. I like to mingle with the locals. Besides, you can avoid the tourist traps that way too.

I was in London about 5 years ago, the only places to play pool at I was told were some private clubs. I think they were also mostly snooker places anyway. I was there for 2 days and did not find anything, was also near Liverpool at another time and don't remember finding a place either.

I'm actually with you...

I would love to find a place to play some snooker. I would probably be badly outclassed even by the lowest of players, but I'd love to play on one of those 12 footers.

More than likely I won't have that much time to play anyway, but I thought I'd at least give it a shot.

Thanks for all the replies.

David...

I was thinking about sending Craig a message, but I don't him and I thought that might be a tad creepy... LOL

I might muster up some courage, though.

defnitely man i agree with the principle completely. particularly annoys me when you get the english tourists travelling to the likes of spain and italy and only wanting to eat fish and chips. :S

4. Sheffield :scratchhead:

I guess that must be because of the eleventy thousand snooker halls we've got here.

In London probably the best place to go would be Riley's victoria. Good players in there and usually a bit of action.

Without my cues I might be to much of a coward to scare up action, but the more I am thinking about it the more I want to at least go into a Riley's in either Brighton or maybe London.

Yep, go to Riley's Victoria to play on the $30 per hour GC IV :s

Probably the most expensive table rate in the world ......

Have a look at the main website for american pool in uk ......

http://www.pro9.co.uk

.......or the main website for uk style 8 ball pool (ie on the smaller tables with red and yellow balls)...

http://www.uk8ball.com

Plenty american pool halls and competitions. Virtually all pool 'clubs' are accessible by paying a small day entry fee plus table hire. In Central London you might want to try Rileys pool Club in Victoria, a short walk from the rail station, comps most Saturday nights and some midweek too.

A large proportion of pubs have one or more uk style 8 ball coin slot tables at about $2 per game. In most pubs you just put your name on the board and when its your turn you play the previous winner, winner stays on.

Ouch...!! Even on an expense account I don't know if I'd pay that.

Ok, here is where you will get a chance to hone your snooker skills before going to a REAL Snooker hall. You will se all over the place bars that say "buttershaw WMC or dovesdale WMC anything thta says WMC at the end stands for "Working Mens Club" They usually have a couple of snooker tables in there. There will be a few great players but mostly enthusiasts. These people will be happy to show you the game while playing in a foursome or something. When you go into the any of the WMC they are private but any member can sign you in. Tell the guy at the door with a members book in front of him that you are from the US and you want to try snooker. Than asking what he is drinking, He will sign you in or get a member friend to come and sign you in. it will cost you a beer basically. Usually though the beer is cheaper in the WMC than anywhere else. Again you will have fun learning with these olde guys and they WILL Shark You the whole time. Have fun I wish I was going with ya.
