So, let me get this straight. Murray was not happy with the finish on the cue after taking a second look at it and did not want to send out a product that was not up to his standards. He then refunded your money telling you that when it was done, he would ship it to you and you could pay him for the cue after you received it. That seems fair enough to me but apparently I am rational.
I have spoken with Murray multiple times in the last 10 years and he has never been anything but a stand up guy and honest about what is going on. He stands behind his work and is a perfectionist. His wife, children and mother take precedent over everything else AND he has a company to run. Life happens and other things get in the way and pushed to the back burner.
Making cues is a hobby for him and he is damn good at it. He does not charge a premium for the cues he makes and they play better than a lot of other cues out there. He does it for the love of building the cues.
I have had a hobby of restoring vintage audio gear and building custom rat rods for almost 20 years. There has been more times than I can count where I restored a piece of audio gear for someone that would sound great to 98% of the population but did not sound right to me, so I would do a complete tear down and rebuild it at my own expense. Same thing with the cars. If I finished a motor or body work on it and I came back a day or 2 later and found something I didn't like about it, I'd start to redo it.
Back to the subject of Murray. There is nothing funny about a cue maker asking for payment on a cue right before a cue is finished. I have a lot of money tied up in cues that I won't see for a year or two from several of the top cue makers in the country. That is business. If Murray says he is going to do something, he WILL do it. It may not be on your time line, but he will get it done.
If you aren't happy with what happened, I can completely understand but it seems like you and Murray had already worked things out with the refund. I am really struggling with why you felt the need to come on here and flame him for no reason.
