M is Mika Immonen and R is Radoslaw Babica. Race to 150, final 32

R wins lag, and M breaks well, but R makes great shot. Careless pattern leaves him funny on next breakshot, s he plays safe with a lead of 15/0. After R's second ball safety, they trade fouls, and M plays a good safe. R tries to kick in the 14 ball, a shot that qualifies as wreckless in my book, as it offered only iffy shape if made. The miss brings M back to table trailing by 14/-1. M clears easily to pull wihtin 14/12. Makes break shot but after running the next twelve, an easy miss brings R back to the table, and after R makes the last two, it's 24/16. R makes breakshot but hits pack with little pace and gets stuck, and it's back to safety play, with the sequence won by M, who clears for a 37/17 lead.

Breaks them, but mispalys an under the pack breakshot midway through the rack, and M will have to negotiate a tough thirteen in the side to save the innning, and he misses, so it's 45/17. R runs the last six for 45/23 and adds another rack for 45/37, and yet another to gain the lead, 51/45. Sticks to the rack on his breakshot, and R will have to shoot a long 15 ball jacked up over the pack. He misses, ending his run at 35, and M returns to table trailing by 52/45. M runs out confidently for a 58/52 lead, and effortlessly adds another rack for 72/52. Makes next breakshot, but runs out of shpae, and he'll need to make a tough shot in the side to keep going, and he makes it, then runing out the rack for 86/52. Runs the next to bring his run up to 55 and his lead to 100/52, but he misses the shape ont he breakshot, so it's back to safety play. M chances a tough shot into the side, but can't come with it. R comes to the table and runs 98 and out for the impressive 150/100 win.

It wasn't the prettiest 98 ball run I've ever seen, as Babica lost control of his cue ball a few times, but he made all the key shots and certainly deserved the win.

Thanks for the great coverage SJM!

I just recently ranted about the lack of coverage (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=67845) while giving you a well placed credit for being the only decent commentary...

SJM,

Would you happen to know match times for this evening? And what time round will be the last one?

I am thinking of going down tonight, but wouldn't get there until about 8. If I know I can watch for at least 2 or 3 hours, I'll go, but they seem to be moving through these rounds pretty fast. I am worried they are going to complete the double-elim pretty early and call it a night.

Also, thanks for your great coverage!

Thanks,
Steve

The last round tonight, according to the tournament chart posted, begins at 10:00 PM.

Babica has just added Niels Feijen to his list of victims. His wins over Immonen and Feijen make him the cinderella story of the day.
