I'll basically have time to check out one pool hall, so which should it be?

It's okay if it's not in the city, surrounding burbs ok too.

Thanks.

Both neighborhoods quite safe...

...although Red Shoes is the players' room of choice these days, if that matters to you. They offer a very good burger there, too. GF

George is it true you walked in the first day with a pair of red shoes on and they changed the name on the spot from Red's Billiards to Red Shoes? Or was that Freddie?

Red Shoes

For better or worse, Jay, my sartorial tastes don't extend to red shoes, and this is one item for which Freddy can't take credit. I've written a column about this; the room was NOT named for the fine film with all-world ballerina Moira Shearer. If I remember right, they were the playing trademark of room co-owner John Zaksas. Good to hear from you, Jay. GF

You too dude. Tell John I want some more Bank Pool action with him for twenty a game. Ha Ha.

Ruffled Feathers is a tricked up, tough Pete Dye design that has all inclusive deals right now.....ooops, wrong where to play! :embarrassed2:

I say if you have to pick just one while in town, go to Red Shoes.

Chris's was cool because it was the first time I've actually got to shoot a ball on a snooker table, but the parking blows.

I'd go to red shoes. Area is not that bad, parking is right there in front of the place. Chris's you gotta park like a half a block away and if you park in the wrong spot you can get towed.

Chris' is ok. Honestly, it's a bit of a dump. If someone likes the "just Pool, this is Ames" theme, bare floors, plastic dividers to separate the room/save on A/C bills, then Chris' is the place to go.

The upside is that it is a players room and used to be known for action. Also, coming from within the city, you can take a train that stops about 4 blocks away from Chris', so if you don't have a car, this mihgt work.

I haven't been into Chris's in a couple of years but I honestly don't know how anyone can compare Red Shoes to it. Red Shoes is a tiny little place with not much space and is a little farther of a drive than any of the supplied maps above make it out be. With all the construcion on the Ike and the traffic overflow on to I55, expect it to take awhile to get from the loop or McCormick out to Red Shoes. I know Red Shoes has a huge reputation on this board for the talent there, but come on. Maybe Chris's has really slid in the last couple of years, I don't know.

I didn't know 15 Gold Crowns and 2 Valley barboxes constituted a "tiny place" nowadays...

I got to play at Red Shoes for the first time on Fri and all I can say is its the perfect pool hall with good equipment and good people. The only problem of course is that I have to go home tonight so it's just a "little" further than I'd like.
