Wow, you have a lot of excellent players in that list!!! If I am to place a bet, I would choose one of the players from the Philippines. They have 8 players namely Pagulayan, Bustamante, Manalo, Orcullo, Lee Van Corteza, Kiamco, Andam and Sambajon.

My god. $13,000 for first in a world championship?

Perhaps America should not be hosting world championships in pool until we can get the money thing straightened out.

It's an embarassingly paltry amount.

Russ

I think to most of the players its the title that's more important. Especially the foreign players who get support from federations or sponsors/companies that award them bonuses .

Strengthening your name with the title World Champion has done many players alot of good in modern times.

I'm glad this event has had such a fabulous field of international stars!

Another World Championship?

Who's holding the one next week..................and the week after......and so on? (Biily Bob's 2 ball World Championship :))

A player could hold 10 WC titles in two years even if he lost half the tournaments. Value: 10 WC titles = 1 US Open title.

$13,000 is better than nothing. Maybe you could add $10,000 to the pot.

Exactly.

I have a problem with everyone who b!tches about what a tourny pays, but at the same time will not drive or fly to support said tournament.

I am curious who is supposed get "proper" prize funds in place. If we do not do it then who?

I remember listening to a 20 something kid named Charlie talking to Mike Janis at a Lexington All Stars tournament years ago about getting a pro mens tour together. Well say what you will but he ACTUALLY did it. No BS. There are tournaments for mens pros to play in because someone nutted up, learned what it took, and put on tournaments.

So yeah, it sucks there isn't enough money for people live off of. It's always been that way. It will always be that way until we change it. When I say we I mean every fan of pro pool who does not tell all of our friends about events. I mean all of us who do not DRAG league guys to pro events.

Basically we need to stop b!tching and start helping.

All I meant was that obviously America does not support enough interest in pool to offer up good prize funds.

Ronnie Alcano won $25,000 and $100,000, respectively, in his two championships.. The UAE and the Phillipines are MUCH poorer countries than the US, but they still put up VERY respectable prize funds.

I'm just saying I am freaking embarassed that pool has ebbed so low that we would even consider offering this small an amount.

Whoever the smartass was who said I should add 10K to the prize fund, I guarantee you if I had the money to spare, I would. In America, we have a few millionaires who have a keen interest in pool, but obviously the interest is not enough to support the game at the pro level.

We are offering the SAME amount of money for a championship that was being offered 20 years ago. Does no one else see this as pathetic?

So again, I think we should leave the "world championships" up to other countries to organize if we can't do better than this. At least the pros would make some decent money.

Russ

edit: And as far as saying "it's always been that way"... No it hasn't, and no it isn't. The rest of the world seems to be doing just fine pool-wise. When adjusted for standards of living, there are probably 100's of pros in the Phillipines who make better money than our American pros. Good god, Efren has MULTIPLE houses in the Phillipines. He supports a LARGE extended family.

BTW, 1st is actually $14000 at the World 10-Ball Championship
also, the World 8-Ball just started paying out $25k for first , previously only 20k for 1st after 4 years and they have a billionaire sheik or prince backing the event. nice!
But they failed to get any USA players in the event for 2 years in a row. all the top names like Archer, Morris, Davis, etc declined

Promoters in USA rely on industry sponsors soley.

I think $14000 in that light is not out of line for the first year and apparenlty so do another 96 world class pros.

Besides, I think our USA boys need a break from playing world title events after a 15 hour flight and can use some home soil support for a world title.

Im betting in 4 years time, 1st place will be at $20k or more, even if there is no oil prince backing the usa event
(:
