Airport Billiards, out by the Airport. It's on West Washington. Thats where the best players tend to go.

I went through a few years ago and ended up at a great place called Executive Billiards. They had a 5' x 10' table and people loved the bank pool. I found some pretty tough games with some very respectful people.

Is that really the best that Indy has to offer? I stop there every time I fly into or out of Indy and I have not been impressed. It's true that you can find a game there, at least sometimes, but the place is filthy, the billiard tables are painfully slow and short, and the houseman and regulars are likely to be smoking in front of the no smoking sign. Airport billiards looks to me like a place that was strong and hot 15 or 20 years ago.

That said, probably the things that bother me are exactly what many players will want in a poolroom.

Willie? Comments?

When I went there the place smelled like piss. And looked like a bomb went off inside.

I hope they get it together again. It had new cloth and looked pretty nice all around when I was there. I said a few years ago, when the reality of it was I went through 5 yrs ago...time fly's.

They probly don't take care of the place like they should, but that's one of the few places that have big tables, and of course some of the better players hang oput there. Executive, last time I was there, was a little run down too, and had a rougher looking crowd. Not saying I' ever seen any trouble there, but haven't been in there at all for about 8-10 years either. Used to be a place called Mr and Miss Cue, down on the south side that was ok too. Other than those, I don't think you'll find any places with multiple tables, except places like John Waynes, which is a bar with about 30 bar tables.

If someone wants to open a pool room in Indy , I would be happy to help set up the food and beverage part of it . I would like to see people at a tournament be able to get a bowl of pasta and a nice glass of wine , after all , some of them are human .....................:D

Not a very nice thing to say about your home town. But I gotta agree with you. You'd think a place as big as Indy, would have at least 1 upscale place. But now that Chalkies is gone, and the old Billiard Cafe is gone, if you want clean, with a nice atmosphere, you gotta play barboxes. And then the tables usually suck due to all the bangers abusing them, and the owners caring more about the food and drink business than the tables.

Indy has three real pool rooms all mentioned above

Mr Miss Cue Southside on Madison Ave - good tables, well maintained, not lots of action but it can be found depending on who is there at the time

Executive/Glove Compartment North East 52nd and Keystone - Has snooker table, golf every day is played three tables by counter have alot of bank pool and 1 pocket, cheap action is usually available does have 10' gold crown, has nice house cues, Steve Oaks drops in during the day occasionally and will give action to most any roadman. Crowd is rougher but not so bad, very bad parking lot potholes could swallow an import car.

Airport Washington + 465 on West side - Billiards Table, Snooker Table, GC2 and 3 9' tables has most action of all has valley bar box next to main action table. Only the main action table has had new cloth in the last 3 years and I think it was paid for by the players not by the pool room. That is a pretty sad state of affairs. Alot of the straight pool players took to bring in their own new balls. You are right in that it does feel like a dump but it has the action. Also they do deal with the no smoking rules by smoking in front of the no smoking signs, the first smoke is usually fired up by the houseman then the players all start smoking :(. However, 1P, Bank and 9B action can be found. George Breedlove can be called in for action if a roadman decides he wants to bet it up. George does not play alot these days but he likes a challenge and his business place is not that far from Airport. Brian Gregg is in there on most Friday nights.

Airport positives - They do have new chalk available and there is a rumor they will be recovering some of the tables soon but that is just a rumor. More likely they will sell out soon but time tell.

There are some other places to play in Indy, some bowling alleys still have tables, Jillians downtown has like 8 GC4 tables and nice balls but nobody plays there. There is a diner in Fountain Square with 2 GC2's but no players.

Betmores Basement - Limited hours and extremly tough action. However you can get a cold drink and WBM also has a strong selection of new chalk.

If you want some action on the southside try thursday night at John Waynes - Stop 11 and Madison all Valley bar tables. Lots of other bar table spots as leagues are going strong and Indy does have some players.

Come To Indy and you can find action or just a place to play.

Well put , Sammy .........................

I have to agree

for a city with 1.5 million people, Indy sucks for quality Billiard rooms, at least it did 10 years ago when I lived there. Wichita, with 1/2 million has better rooms.

I mostly played at the Billiard Cafe in the parking lot of the NE mall since I lived in the area.

The best part about Airport Billiards is the PeePee gnats. Sometimes the gnats are so big they have there own PeePee gnats.

Ok now

Like a pee pee gnat crew .......the younger ones call themselves gangster gnats .....

I wasn't gonna say anything about the pee pee gnats, but they were pretty bad the last time I went there. Seems any type stuff to kill them might be too much to ask. So, you might wanna stay away from drinking anything, unless you have a large bladder.

LOL ........!!!

When I went there , I usually waited till it was time to go out and "check the air pressure" , then used the outdoor facilities .........
