I am not a cue maker but I am very interested in how a full splice cue is constructed. Does anyone know where I can get info such as pictures of jigs, procedure for cutting, types of machinery used. I know there are several companies and cue builders selling books and videos on cue making in general but I am only interested in this topic. If someone could suggest a book or video it would be very appreciated. I am particularly interested in pictures or videos of the process.

cueman Chris Hightower.. He sell a book that have what you are looking for. Give him a call nice man to talk with.

Your best bet is finding someone to make a copy of Burton Spain's making splices manual.

I would also love to see how they are made. If you locate any info, please let me know.

Thanks,
Ian

Hey Joey, is such a book is around then how do I get one? I wouldn't mind owning a real copy or at least getting a look at it. If it is no longer around can I get a copy?

Jim.

i purchased the set of dvd's from brianna - and one of the dvd's is dedicated to the points. shows everything you need to know about making them. I believe if the dvd's are purchased individually, they are about $20us

Chris' videos also describe the process of making a full spliced blank and show him cutting the butt section in an indexing jig with a band saw. I have an electronic version of Burton Spain's Making Blanks book, but haven't read it in a while.

Thanks

Thanks to all who replied. Looks like the Hightower videos would have what I am looking for. I was in GA last memorial day and didn't even know I was only 45 minutes from his place. Maybe could have stopped in. Oh well I'll give him a call and see what I can do. Thanks again to everyone.

Here are some photos. It's up to you to figure out how it's all done. Haha :p

Great Link - Thanks again

Special thanks to Matta & CamposCues for this link:

Not only are the pics of full splice construction what I am looking for but navigating thru the rest of this site gives a person a feeling of Ah at what beautiful cue work is really about. I didn't know there was a site with so many beautiful cues displayed in one place.
If any one knows of other sites such as this I would dearly love a link to it. Many thanks again.
PS. I still would like some views of the actual cutting process showing the jigs and machinery used.

You're welcome.

Beware of that site. It's no where near finished. Also, it's hosted off my home internet connection. It's probably slow as Chrismas. :D

I got bogged down working on it 6 months ago and haven't returned to it. I'll get around to finishing it some time. I have too many irons in the fire.

Thanks for the compliments, though.

If you're into full splice cues, you might want to check out Scott Whislers site - http://www.whislercues.com

There aren't many pics, but IMO Scott is one of the premier full splice makers ever. He doesn't use traditional full splice set-ups, which is why he's able to get the points razor sharp on both ends. I don't have any pics of traditional full splice jigs, but have seen them. It's typically a dedicated bandsaw for cutting the handles, and a dedicated tablesaw set up for cutting the forearms. It's really quite elegant in it's simplicity, but I imagine it would take quite a while to get the set up perfect.

Matta - if you want to get that site off of your home internet connection, you're welcome to host it on my server.

That is one hell of an offer. Once I start working on it again, I'll contact you for hosting. That would be great.

I appreciate it.

Thanks for the link. I've been to Whistler's site before. But I'm not looking to buy a cue at this time. I just have an itch to know how it's done and looking to get it scratched.
