Inlays

What does it mean if anything if you can feel slight bumps where the inlays are? I have had two separate cues that I noticed this. Both cues were from respectable makers. At least in my opinion. A buddy of mine had the same cue and his was smooth where I could feel slight bumps.

It means the inlays raised up through the finish. Happens mostly because different materials wood, metal etc hVe different rates of expansion and contraction.

Only way to fix is a refinish. , keeping a cue in a controlled environment helps.

Don't keep a nice cue in the car... Ever.

Hot and cold causes things to come apart.

Just a thought

My cue walks in the front door with me every night that it goes out. :)

It's probably more likely that the finish has shrunk down and at the area where the inlays and surround wood/material meet, you notice it. Also the same kind of thing happens around metal rings. Not a huge issue, pretty common actually and can be cured with a refinish.

finish shrinks as the solvents get older and evaporate more thoroughly. It means you may worry too much. That too is common.

Or it went into cold water. I know my inlay can shrink sometimes.

Sometimes it can depend on how much of finish build when it was made too. I have gotten the odd cue that you can feel the points etc right from the start.

Not a biggy unless it bugs you. Like what was said, a refinish can take care of that.

Many good guys to do the job as well and you probably know that a refinish won't break the bank in most cases.

It can give a new life to an older cue too. Sometimes a wrap clean is all it takes and sometimes a new wrap to go with it.
